Thanks to website builders, creating websites is possible to common people who don't really know how to code. And that's quite easy now. But there're many great website builders like Wix and SiteBuilder, so how do you know which to choose?
It's a tough competition, so in our Wix vs SiteBuilder comparison we tested which is the best - for your personal website, blog, and business.
How did it go?
Without any further ado, let's find out!
What Is Wix?
Wix is a website builder that aims to make website building as simple as it can possibly be. Since its launch in 2006, Wix has built an impressive user base of over 125m clients - and all of them can make beautiful websites with no coding knowledge required.
Instead of spending weeks building a website, you can design a website in less than a few hours or even minutes. Using Wix's drag-and-drop tools, you can completely customize any site to suit your preferences.
Don't even want to do that? With Wix ADI artificial intelligence system, you can get a unique site generated just by entering your information and answering a few questions.
And what's better, all of these features are available for all of the Wix packages. An easy editor and Wix ADI are available to all users.
What Is SiteBuilder?
SiteBuilder is another popular web building platform that continues to make gains in the market. While it isn't as well-known as Wix, it's based on the same premise. SiteBuilder allows users to quickly set up sites without the need for any coding knowledge.
Users can benefit from a range of different pre-set templates. Sites are also customizable via drag-and-drop features that make designing a piece of cake.
If you're looking to get your website or blog running in a hurry, SiteBuilder is an excellent tool. You can also take advantage of domain purchasing, email, and other premium website features. It's a one-stop-shop for all your online business needs.
SiteBuilder vs Wix - Which One Is The Site Building Champion?
While there are plenty of good website builders available on the market, you can only choose one for your website. To select the right web builder, you'll need to choose a partner that has the features you're looking for.
So, between SiteBuilder and Wix, which one has the best features, and is the better platform?
Both Platforms Are Easy to Use, But Wix is Effortless
Both Wix and SiteBuilder are easy to use but Wix is slightly better at this. Wix editor allows more freedom and is more intuitive than the one that SiteBuilder uses. Wix also provides you with more templates to be the foundation of your website-to-be than SiteBuilder.
However, with both editors, you'll be able to drag-and-drop components of the website to build it to your personal requirements. And while both builders offer similar ease of use, Wix takes it a step further.
Wix Website Builder
Wix currently has an Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI) system that builds websites automatically. If you choose to use the ADI platform, Wix will ask you a series of questions about your potential site, and then build it for you. You can then customize specific components to personalize your website. But if you don't want to, Wix's ADI even inserts suitable photos and text!
With SiteBuilder, it's a bit different.
SiteBuilder Website Builder
You don't get the complete drag-and-drop freedom like you would with Wix. It is simple to add pages, insert a few photos, and text boxes, but that's about it.
The difficulty comes when you want to rearrange the contents. You won't be able to place the content boxes anywhere you want to. There are strict template rules and sections only go one after another - not next to each other and no way on top of each other.
In terms of ease of use, Wix is a clear winner. Not only can it build a website for you, but its drag and drop editor is more intuitive and flexible. SiteBuilder is also easy to use but you won't be able to customize as much.
Wix vs SiteBuilder Designs: Wix Options Are More Extensive
Part of Wix popularity is its extensive design options. It has 100s of templates to choose from and has emerged as a favorite amongst graphic designers, photographers, and other creatives. SiteBuilder has much fewer options, but you can use it to create professional websites as well.
With image-heavy sites on offer, Wix allows you to use graphics to build unique, aesthetically pleasing websites. If you'd like to take a look at some of the fantastic websites people have created with Wix, take a look at some Wix website examples.
As you will see in the examples, it's easy to incorporate videos and dynamic elements within your website. This level of functionality is very rare in a web builder. Wix is one of the only platforms you can achieve such unique features with.
SiteBuilder also provides attractive sites, but you don’t have access to the same capabilities that you find with Wix. SiteBuilder offers some cool external features, such as domain names and unlimited emails, but it doesn't have the same design power.
I get the feeling that SiteBuilder is still trying to build its own platform. Maybe in the future, it will have more design features to offer its users.
SiteBuilder is an excellent platform for basic websites. But, if you want to create a truly unique platform, you'll be more impressed with Wix.
SiteBuilder vs Wix: Extensive Customer Support Options
One area that SiteBuilder does better than Wix is customer support. SiteBuilder offers 24/7 live chat and email support to all customers. On the other hand, Wix is available 24/7 via phone and email support. It also has a live chat in the testing stage.
You'll also be able to contact Wix in multiple languages - Spanish and French included, but only on weekdays.
We also checked the support in our Wix review - although it is a con in there, we saw that the provider is striving to do better and is improving constantly.
So, when comparing the support, neither is actually better. SiteBuilder has fully-working live chat - which is great for fast problem-solving. However, Wix is constantly improving and growing.
Wix vs SiteBuilder: Pricing
SiteBuilder is cheaper than Wix with the pricing starting at $5.50/month, while Wix cheapest plan costs $13/mo. The most expensive SiteBuilder plan will cost you $10.00/mo, while you'll have to pay $500/mo for the most expensive, Enterprise solution with Wix.
Wix pricing is also much more complicated. It has 8 plans - 4 for personal websites and another 4 for business and eCommerce.
Wix Personal Plans
All of Wix plans include a free domain for a year and SSL certificates for security.
- The Combo for $13/mo includes 2GB of bandwidth and 3GB storage.
- The Unlimited for $17/mo gets you unlimited bandwidth and 10GB disk space.
- The Pro for $22/mo provides you with unlimited bandwidth and 20GB disk space.
- The VIP for$39/mo includes unlimited bandwidth, 20GB disk space, priority support, and a bunch of vouchers and premium apps.
However, none of the plans allow you to accept payments. So if you need this functionality for your website, it's best to look at Business & eCommerce pricing tier.
Wix Business & eCommerce Plans
All of the plans include unlimited bandwidth, security features, and a free domain for a year.
- The Business Basic for $23/mo includes 20GB storage, eCommerce features, and Google Analytics integration.
- The Busines Unlimited for $27/mo gets you 35GB disk space, eCommerce integration, professional logo, and a bunch of vouchers.
- The Business VIP for $49/mo provides you with 50GB disk space, priority support, eCommerce, premium apps, and vouchers.
- The Enterprise for $500/mo is the same as Business VIP, but you get your own personal consultants for coding, security, and business integration.
SiteBuilder has only 3 affordable plans that include a free domain for a year and advanced website statistics. Unfortunately, SiteBuilder does not specify what amount of data you get with the plans.
- The Pro plan for $5/mo gets you the basic website building features.
- The Premium plan for $7/mo includes priority support.
- The eCommerce plan for $10/mo includes eCommerce features and priority support.
While both platforms are affordable, SiteBuilder does appear to offer some extremely good deals. Still, you'll need to weigh this up against the overall feature comparison in my SiteBuilder vs Wix review.
SiteBuilder vs Wix: Performance
SiteBuilder and Wix have excellent reputations in terms of performance. Both have over 99.9% uptime. If you need a website builder and host you can trust to keep you online, both of these providers are reliable options. However, Wix turned out to be faster.
SiteBuilder was slower in multiple locations. However, response times in the US and Europe were exceptional as well.
Looking at locations like Asia or South America - SiteBuiler is much slower.
Wix response times across the globe barely stepped over 300ms mark - only in Japan and Banglore to be specific. In the US and Europe, it kept amazing response times of less than 200ms.
As you can see, there's some difference. While both Sitebuilder and Wix are reliable, Wix simply offers better response times, resulting in faster loading of your websites.
SiteBuilder vs Wix - the Verdict
While both of these web builders offer excellent services, there's a clear winner when it comes to SiteBuilder vs Wix. At the end of the day, Wix provides some of the most comprehensive website building features that you'll find on the market. Wix is easier to use, more intuitive, provides more features, and is faster.
Choosing SiteBuilder, you'll have a smaller choice of templates, design elements, and the platform itself is not as intuitive. Though you might save a couple of bucks.
It is also worth mentioning that currently, Wix is our #1 in the best website builders list. So if you're not sure, you can find some great website builders out there too.
Wix and SiteBuilder both serve the same purpose. But if you want to truly get the most out of your next website, I recommend you work with Wix. Its designs, capabilities, and overall platform far outweigh the current offering from SiteBuilder.
