Creating websites was once only available to computer programmers with advanced coding knowledge. But in recent years, website builders brought website creation to the mainstream. With them, users to start websites without the need for any coding or technical knowledge.
Both companies aim to help users build websites without the need of a tech background. But it's important to take a look at both options before deciding which platform to use for your next project.
Let's find out!
What Is Wix?
Wix is a site builder that aims to make website building as simple as it can possibly be. Since its inception in 2006, Wix has built an impressive user base of over 125m clients - and all of them can make beautiful websites with no coding knowledge required.
Instead of spending weeks building a website, you can design a website in less than a few hours. Using Wix's drag-and-drop tools, you can completely customize any site to suit your preferences.
Don't even want to do that? With Wix ADI artificial intelligence system, you can get a unique site generated just by entering your information and answering a few questions.
And what's better, all of these features are available for all of the Wix packages. An easy editor and Wix ADI are available to all users.
What Is SiteBuilder?
SiteBuilder is another popular web building platform that continues to make gains in the market. While it isn't as well-known as Wix, it's based on the same premise. SiteBuilder allows users to quickly set up sites without the need for any coding knowledge.
Users can benefit from a range of different pre-set templates. Sites are also customizable via drag-and-drop features that make designing a piece of cake.
If you're looking to get your website or blog running in a hurry, SiteBuilder is an excellent tool. You can also take advantage of domain purchasing, email, and other premium website features. It's a one-stop-shop for all your online business needs.
Which One Is The Site Building Champion?
While there are plenty of good website builders available on the market, you can only choose one for your website. To select the right web builder, you'll need to choose a partner that has the features you're looking for.
So, between SiteBuilder and Wix, which one has the best features, and is the better platform?
Both Platforms Are Easy to Learn, But Wix is Effortless
If you want to build a website quickly, both of these platforms make it easy. Wix and SiteBuilder offer hundreds of templates that provide you with a general outline for your new site.
You can then drag-and-drop components of the website to build it to your personal requirements. And while both builders offer similar ease of use, Wix takes it a step further.
Wix currently has an Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI) system that builds websites automatically. If you choose to use the ADI platform, Wix will ask you a series of questions about your potential site, and then build it for you. You can then customize specific components to personalize your website. But if you don't want to, Wix's ADI even inserts suitable photos and text!
Wix's Design Options Are More Extensive
Part of Wix's popularity is its extensive design options. It has emerged as a favorite amongst graphic designers, photographers, and other creatives. With image-heavy sites on offer, Wix allows you to use graphics to build unique, aesthetically pleasing websites. If you'd like to take a look at some of the fantastic websites people have created with Wix, take a look at our article.
As you will see in some Wix examples, it's easy to incorporate videos and dynamic elements within your website. This level of functionality is very rare in a web builder. Wix is one of the only platforms you can achieve such unique features with.
SiteBuilder also provides attractive sites, but you don’t have access to the same capabilities that you find with Wix. SiteBuilder offers some cool external features, such as domain names and unlimited emails, but it doesn't have the same design power.
I get the feeling that SiteBuilder is still trying to build its own platform. Maybe in the future, it will have more design features to offer its users. It's an excellent platform for basic websites. But, if you want to create a truly unique platform, you'll be more impressed with Wix.
SiteBuilder Customer Support is Better
One area that SiteBuilder does better than Wix is customer support. SiteBuilder offers 24/7 live chat and email support to all customers. On the other hand, Wix is only available from 5 AM to 5 PM (PST). However, it must be said that Wix offers multi-lingual customer support for those who speak Spanish or Portuguese.
Wix vs SiteBuilder: Pricing
Wix offers a range of different price points for its customers. In fact, Wix has a permanent free option available to those who want to avoid making a financial commitment. Wix's paid subscriptions range from $4.50 per month to $24.50 per month, but the most expensive plans are geared towards larger businesses.
SiteBuilder doesn't currently offer a free plan to its users. Fortunately, though, its packages are extremely affordable. Prices range from $3.82 per month to $9.22 per month. All plans include free hosting, a free domain name, and full design features.
While platforms are affordable, SiteBuilder does appear to offer some extremely good deals. Still, you'll need to weigh this up against the overall feature comparison in my SiteBuilder vs Wix review.
SiteBuilder vs Wix: Performance
SiteBuilder and Wix have excellent reputations in terms of performance. Both have over 99.9% uptime. If you need a website builder and host you can trust to keep you online, both of these providers are reliable options.
I also ran a page responsiveness test on both website builders. Turns out, Wix servers are a little bit faster.
Here's how Wix servers have done on multiple worldwide servers:
And here's how did Sitebuilder:
As you can see, there's some difference. While both Sitebuilder and Wix are reliable, Wix simply offers better response times, resulting in faster loading of your websites.
Verdict: Stick with Wix
While both of these web builders offer excellent services, there's a clear winner when it comes to SiteBuilder vs Wix. At the end of the day, Wix provides some of the most comprehensive website building features that you'll find on the market.
With tons of excellent templates, an ADI tool, dynamic elements, and more, you can do almost anything with Wix's site builder.
Wix and SiteBuilder both serve the same purpose. But if you want to truly get the most out of your next website, I recommend you work with Wix. Its designs, capabilities, and overall platform far outweigh the current offering from SiteBuilder.
