Iwantmyname Review – What Does This Domain Registrar Offer?

iwantmyname-review

Iwantmyname was founded by employees from several ICANN accredited domain registrars. This New Zealand-based company considers itself to be an upright brand, while it has also won praises for its transparency and ease-of-use.

According to its ethics, domain buying should be simple, but is this the case?

Read my iwantmyname review to find out.

First Impressions

What I can say definitively is that iwantmyname does exactly what it says on the tin.

Iwantmyname is a domain registrar, and nothing more. This is not necessarily a weakness, but some iwantmyname reviews have criticized the lack of web hosting provided. Most other registrars (such as GoDaddy and 1&1) offer a wide range of hosting options and even web builders.

Iwantmyname Pricing

Here is a breakdown of iwantmyname pricing structure for some of the most common domain extensions:

Domain NamePrice
.COM$14.90
.CO.UK$14.90
.IO$49.00
.NET$17.10
.CO$24.00
.US$19.00

One disappointing aspect of this web service is that it doesn’t offer discounts for bulk buying. This is pretty stingy considering how many businesses will wish to purchase multiple domains and goes down as a black mark against this service.

Also, even the most commonly used web extensions, such as .com and .co.uk, are more expensive on iwantmyname than other comparable services, such as Hostinger.

It should also be noted that every domain register must pay a fee of 18 cents to ICANN for each domain registered, although this isn’t specific to iwantmyname.

Overall, the pricing of this site didn’t particularly impress me.

Overall Evaluation

One of the obvious strengths of iwantmyname is the sheer range of domains available.

There are a huge amount of extensions provided by the site, with 500+ top level domains currently available for purchase. This compares very favorably with most competitors, while iwantmyname also enables customers to register or pre-order a particular domain.

Security features are also included, and it is pleasing that these are provided for free. Some domain register sites charge for this privilege, so this definitely provides iwantmyname with an advantage over its rivals. The site can also be commended for a lack of cross-selling, with additional services not pushed too heavily during the checkout process.

domain registrar, iwantmyname, godaddy, domain, registrar,

If you’re dissatisfied with the service provided by iwantmyname then you are free to transfer your domain to another provider, although this does require an administrative process. What I can say is that I found customer support to be very helpful and responsive. Iwantmyname has a lot of strengths, which does stand out against its relatively high costs.

One important thing to note from my iwantmyname review is that the site doesn’t appear on the current ICANN accredited list – which is quite a disappointment – meaning that the registrar is less accountable than some of its competitors.

Pros

A vast number of TLDs available
Many different domain types can be purchased
Domain transfer policies are clear
Customer support is slick

Cons

Pricing
Lack of bulk options
Mobile app is poor
CANN accreditation lacking

Iwantmyname Review – My Ultimate Verdict

Iwantmyname has its strengths and weaknesses, but I cannot recommend it to any business or website owner looking to create a simple, affordable site. There are simply better options available, while some of these cheaper options also deliver a website builder and better hosting options too.

However, the range of domain options on offer is rather impressive. If you have specific requirements for your website, you could check out what is on offer at iwantmyname, while bearing in mind that there may be more affordable options out there.
