With the rise of eCommerce platforms like Shopify and BigCommerce and the increasing growth of the market, there's still some space for newer players. And that's exactly what Selz is.
A fresh, growing, and promising quite a lot, Selz is an eCommerce platform aiming to make online selling simple.
The company focuses on small business owners and provides them with all the tools to build their businesses and start selling online.
Can this all be as good as it sounds? In this Selz review, I tested the platform, its features, and pricing to find out.
What is Selz?
Selz is an eCommerce platform founded in 2013 (one of the freshest in the industry) that offers all online-selling related features. That's store builder, multi-channel connection, email marketing, and even WordPress eCommerce plugin. Of course, I am not even talking about shipping and payment integrations - these are default essentials.
Is there anything that makes Selz better than others?
The platform promises complete ease of use, all the essentials, and full integrations with all sales channels available.
Let's find out if the claims are correct.
Selz has pretty standard pricing for an eCommerce platform with 3 general plans available starting at $29/mo or $26/mo with a yearly subscription. The 2-tier plan costs $59/mo ($53/mo yearly) and the 3-tier plan is $199/mo ($179/mo yearly).
You can also select a managed solution for $599/mo that includes a professional online store made by experts and its ongoing management.
All of the plans will include unlimited products, 24/7 customer support, free templates, and other features among 0% transaction fees.
However, some things will differ:
- The Basic plan for $29/mo will not calculate real-time shipping rates, credit card rates are 2.9% + $0.30, and 3rd party payments include a 2% fee.
- The Standard plan for $59/mo will not calculate real-time shipping rates, credit card rates are 2.8% + $0.30, and 3rd party payments include a 1% fee.
- The Advanced plan for $199/mo will include everything from tax invoices to real-time shipping rates and priority support. Credit card rates are 2.7% + $0.30, and 3rd party payments include a 0.5% fee.
To test everything out, you have a 14-day trial with no credit card required.
Selz has standard eCommece platform pricing that's rather affordable and does not require any further investment.
Selz Review - First Impressions
The platform offers a ton of features (no kidding) and in this part of the Selz review, I tested out the templates, website creation process, and all the other features the company has.
eCommerce Templates by Selz
Currently, Selz has 25 templates designed for various online stores - from clothing boutiques to different services. All of them are mobile responsive and will look good on any device. Also, you are free to use them all.
While the number of templates is not that big, I expect that the platform will broaden the selection in the future.
Furthermore, templates are versatile. This means, that you can choose any one of them and customize it to fit your industry freely. Talking about customization, Selz has a nice store builder integrated.
Selz Drag-and-Drop Store Builder and Set-Up Process
Selz features a drag-and-drop site builder that is intuitive and easy even for beginners to use. Drag-and-drop functionality allows to freely move the elements around pages to create unique designs.
Once you log in to the platform, you get a small questionnaire to fill in. I have not found out its purpose apart from personal details. But hey, it's there.
Right then and there you are also provided with a step-by-step guide on what to do next. You can also see the whole dashboard.
The "What's next" part is a smart way of guiding beginner users.
It is also intuitive - you can complete each step by clicking a button next to it. I did not follow the instructions as I do not have any products to sell (sadly). But I went straight to choose a template and customize it.
The drag-and-drop builder is pretty intuitive. I can actually change the text right on the screen.
For other elements, such as buttons, you'll need to use the menu on the left.
The only thing I did not like was that I had to refresh each time I did some kind of a change in the menu. Changes do not apply automatically.
That makes it a little bit of a hassle, especially when customizing colors. Other than that, the builder was intuitive and even equipped with a large gallery of stock images.
The whole process of creating a store and customizing it is rather pleasant.
Selz Payment and Shipping Integration
One of the most important parts of all eCommerce stores is payment and shipping. Selz has its own integrated payment gateway but you can also use Paypal or any third-party method.
As for the shipping, real-time rates are available with the Advanced plan and include FedEx, UPS, and USPS for the US region. To ship worldwide, rates from DHL, Deutsche Post, Australia Post, and more are available.
You can also add "Buy Buttons" to existing websites or integrate with Facebook and Instagram to reach an even wider audience.
Selz App Store
It's possible to make your Selz eCommerce website even more functional by using integrations from the app store. There currently are around 21 apps available.
It includes integrations for commenting, reviews, analytics, and email marketing. For example, MailChimp - one of the most used email marketing providers.
These apps will make your store even more functional than the original builder allows.
Selz Performance Results
Selz hosts all of its websites but has no big claims about the performance. However, it is what makes or breaks the site so I just had to test it out.
And from what I see, the stores are well-optimized. My testing site homepage loads in 1.9 seconds - brilliant.
PageSpeed is ranked with A while YSlow is B - still, a great result.
Although it does not make big promises, Selz has a great performance which will work to grow your customers trust and add up to great user experience.
Selz Review - the Verdict
Selz is a great and still growing eCommerce platform that has all a starting up online store owner would need. Free templates, intuitive website builder, built-in payment gateway - this makes it really easy to set up a store.
Is it better than others?
In some aspects - yes. However, being a smaller player in the industry, Selz still has some catching up to do.
I really enjoyed the platform while testing it for this Selz review and I can recommend it for small business users.
