4Shared Review – Is It Worth Purchasing Their File Storage Services?

4shared is a popular name to many internet users, with the file storage and sharing service having been founded back in 2005.

With the site being responsible for 317 TB of file transfer on a daily basis and capable of handling 11 million users simultaneously, this is a significant operation.

What Is 4Shared?

4Shared enables users to upload files and share them with other users effectively. To sum up - it's a virtual drive for digital content.

With free account options available, 4Shared file sharing is very much aimed at casual users, but they also cater to the business community.

One criticism of the site is that the maximum file size allowed is somewhat small. Unless you are willing to pay for a subscription, you're only allowed to upload files up to 500MB in size. Having tested several other similar platforms, this is noticeably limiting and definitely counts against 4Shared.

4Shared is another file sharing site which requires users to login on a regular basis. Uploaded files are stored as long as users access the account at least once every 30 days, or if at least one of the files is downloaded during the same period.

This may seem a little irritating, but it is actually a common feature.

What about the 4Shared Interface?

The user interface included with the 4Shared is perfectly adequate, somewhat resembling Gmail. Creating folders and uploading content is made relatively easy.

4shared also gives you the option of setting password permissions for every folder included in your account. Providing access to your files is pretty similar to DropBox and is achieved via a password and link basis.

Additionally, the way that 4shared enables users to access your feed makes it easier for friends and family to scroll through your content. A method that the files can be enjoyed from within a browser is also extremely welcome, with many users reporting that this works better, with more flexibility and functionality than with the market-leading DropBox.

Is 4Shared Safe?

4Shared takes its security responsibilities seriously, having extensive provisions included in order to encrypt data. 4Shared does not enforce waiting times for downloads and does not utilize captchas or waiting times for downloads.

The site collaborates with a wide variety of security-focused companies, including Publishers-antipiracy.net. It also has strict conditions applied in order to ensure that illegal and copyrighted materials are not stored online by its users.

Thus, 4Shared has built up a reputation as a valid and a secure file sharing site and having taken the time to test the software, I can only concur with existing 4Shared reviews.

4Shared Pricing

Pricing for 4Shared can be viewed in the table below:

Pricing Free $6.50 per month
Download Speed Low High
Maximum File Size 2048 MB 5 GB
Storage 15 GB 100 GB
Premium Features No Yes

It is refreshing that there is a highly viable free option available, while the subscription account also delivers a pretty decent value for money package.

Audio and video file playback
Good free options
Sharing is made easy

The interface is a bit clunky
Too many ads

4Shared does an excellent job of providing file sharing facilities, while its browser features are also useful and impressive.

Pricing is well structured throughout the packages offered, and despite the 4Shared's insistence on sending you ads through email, they are well worth a look as a storage option.
