101domain company was registered in 2007. Since then it's committed to providing the best domain registration experience with low prices and fantastic support.
Within this period it has provided domain name solutions for tens of thousands of customers. And now it has a much wider hosting services to offer.
In this 101domain review, we’ll give you all the information you need to know.
What Is 101domain?
101domain is primarily a domain registration provider, however, it also dabbles in hosting and other services. The packages include options that are excellent for personal and business purposes. It includes shared hosting, domain registration, SSL certificates, and a website builder.
Although they lack services like VPS, it takes pride in easy and affordable services. And as the company name suggests the main service of 101domain is domain registration.
But in this 101domain review, we'll focus on shared hosting. Is it worth your time and money?
There are three web hosting plans to choose from and the pricing starts from $7.99/mo. This plan includes 1 website, 50GB of storage space, unlimited bandwidth, and 5 sub-domains. To bump up the storage space to 100GB you have to get the Business plan that costs $14.99 a month.
The most expensive plan will cost you $24.99 per month. It includes unlimited website storage, free dedicated IP, free SSL certificates, and unlimited bandwidth.
You can also choose to pay monthly or go for a three-year term - the price gets lower with the longer subscription period. But you won't be punished with big prices if you want to pay monthly.
What disappoints us is the fact there are no cheaper plans available to make 101domain hosting affordable for all types of users. Best web hosting providers offer plenty of cheaper deals.
Unfortunately, 101domain does not offer assisted website transfer - this function is only available for domain transfer. Also, the website builder is not included - the provider offers the paid option instead.
The pricing starts at $4.99 a month, but it does include hosting and eCommerce ability up to 10 products. And you also get a 30-days free trial for you to test the builder out.
101domain does not offer any kind of money-back guarantee for its hosting services. While there are a few grace periods for buying or renewing domains, it doesn't apply to any hosting plans.
Without any money-back guarantee and with a higher price range, it's more suited for people who know exactly what they're doing and have the money for it.
You get enough features and hardware to justifies the price, still, the plans here are on the more expensive side.
With 101domain your website gets quite a big security package. It includes free SSL certificates, Firewalls, malware protection, and other security features that will keep your website secure.
It also limits how activity from other websites in your server can impact your website's uptime or speed.
101domain gives you a free domain when you buy hosting for at least one year.
It gives you free domain privacy protection. Meaning that your personal information, like emails and name, will be hidden from everyone.
For the control panel, you are getting only Plesk. There are no other options available.
Plesk might not be the best control panel for you, or you might have more experience with cPanel. So, we suggest keeping that in mind when buying hosting here.
Free domain, privacy, and security make 101domain plans truly stand out.
Testing out the 101domain load times and optimization showed that this provider has passable speed. Our website fully loaded in 2.5 seconds, so for a website this size its great. And we got both B's in PageSpeed (85%) and Yslow (85%).
It gets an above-average mark and knowing that it uses HDD in the servers, this is even more impressive.
Talking about the server uptime, 101domain has a 99.9% uptime guarantee. And the provider backs it up with the compensation if the uptime is less than promised, it will refund 10% of your monthly expenses. We tested our website for a month and had a 100% uptime rate throughout.
The average response time our report showed was 299ms, whit the maximum spike in performance being 256ms. All in all, our response time was below average and quite stable.
If you want to calculate the possible downtime, you can use our calculator below.
Next, we used Bitcatcha to see our response time all over the globe. The 101domain got an overall mark of A in performance, and most locations responded in 20 to 60 ms. With the leader being Canada with its 17ms time.

101domain showed fast and reliable server performance throughout all of our testings.
101domain doesn't offer a full 24/7 customer support, but as it states its teams are working hard to give the best support possible. You can reach help by phone, live chat, email, or ticket system. You can even find useful information on the 101domain blog.
You get two support phone numbers to use, one is a toll-free USA number, and the other is for international customer. Although the phone support operates from Monday to Friday, so don't expect help on the weekends.
We tested the live chat options and got connected to the support agent immediately. In a few minutes, he answered our questions and was polite and helpful.
What we liked the most, is the straightforward answers we were given. There was no extensive linking to a blog post or other information that we would need to find on our own.
As 101domains state, 99% of the time its knowledge base can answer 99% of your questions. Help articles are grouped into categories like billing, domain management, hosting, and email services. These articles are quite in-depth and filled with useful screenshots.
If you're not afraid of doing some reading and learning yourself, you will definitely find answers to your problems here.
The support here is fast and actually helpful, the only downside is that it doesn't operate 24/7.
