BudgetVM provides a wide range of IT services including cloud, VPS and dedicated server hosting. With data centers located in the United States, Japan, and Holland, the company promises 100% uptime and high performance for its server systems.
But are these claims accurate? In this BudgetVM review, I'll do some thorough fact-checking to find out.
First Impressions Are Pretty Good
The BudgetVM website is user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing, making it easy to access all of the different plan options. Ordering its services is pretty straightforward too, although I personally found it irritating that you have to create an account before you can place an order.
However, once you actually get to access to your server, BudgetVM is reliable and user-friendly. I went with a cloud server package because of the scalability and speed benefits such a hosting architecture provides.
Cloud servers can sometimes be a little fiddly to operate though, so it was nice to see that BudgetVM was actually pretty sturdy and easy to make use of.
One downside I picked up on is that there are fewer server locations to choose from than offered by some other providers. This isn't a major issue if you live in the USA, Japan or The Netherlands, but it's a problem if your target audience is based elsewhere.
As the name implies, BudgetVM offers low-price services. Starting from $9.99/month for a basic VPS, and offering dozens of various configurations, it's a good low-cost provider.
You can see full pricing details for some of the most popular BudgetVM'S cloud hosting services here:
|Base VPS Plan||Xeon E3-1230 Cloud Server||Xeon E3-1270 Cloud Server||2x Xeon E5-2630 Dedicated Server|
|CPU Cores||2 Cores||2 x 3.3GHz||2 x 3.5GHz||24 x 2.5GHz|
|Memory||2GB||4GB DDR3||8GB DDR3||32GB|
|Default Drives||N/A||200GB SATA||200GB SSD||1TB|
|Bandwidth||4TB||5TB/100 Mbps port||10TB/100 Mbps port||10TB|
|DDoS Protection||10 Gbps/10M PPS||10 Gbps/10M PPS||10 Gbps/10M PPS||10 Gbps/10M PPS|
The table above shows a selection of four of the many different packages offered by the host. Each hosting type is offered in a wide range of additional plans to suit personal needs.
Based on my experience in the cloud niche, I found BudgetVM's cloud server pricing to be relatively reasonable. But the best value is clearly found in BudgetVM's VPS hosting plans which, at $9.99/month, are significantly cheaper than the industry standard.
One of BudgetVM's specialties is DDOS protection. Every dedicated and cloud-hosted package offers a 10Gbps DDOS protected connection, but you can add extra capacity beginning at $10/month for an additional 10Gbps.
You Have to Pay for Some Web Hosting Staples
The vast majority of web hosts don't charge for a control panel or installer software. However, BudgetVM obviously keeps hosting base prices low by charging extra for these, which can be a bit of a shock if you weren't expecting it! cPanel comes it at an extra $12/month and Softaculous installer will set you back an extra $3/month.
Other add-ons are available too, such as additional IP addresses, from $5/month, or full server management which is $50/month.
Performance Is Somewhere In The Middle
During my BudgetVM review, I tested the speed of my site using Bitcatcha.
As you can see, BudgetVM's performance was perfectly adequate.
Readers aren't likely to abandon your site because it loads too slowly, but they won't be wowed by its speed either.
But what about its 100% uptime claim? Well, I can confirm that uptime was indeed 100% during the 1 month that I tested this provider. But whether or not it could maintain this over a longer period of time is obviously harder to ascertain.
Wrapping Up My BudgetVM Review
Before conducting my BudgetVM review, I was a little concerned because of the other negative reviews out there.
But during my own review, I was quite impressed by the reliability of BudgetVM's servers and the affordability of its VPS packages. One of BudgetVM's better features is that it allows you to create your own hosting package, letting you choose from tons of add-on packages.
Although other BudgetVM reviews should be taken into consideration, my personal experience with BudgetVM was perfectly acceptable. I found the service to work as it should, I witnessed zero downtime, and customer services were responsive. Sure, the performance isn't amazing, but it's not bad either.
However, taking into considering the other reviews and the lack of free trial, I would struggle to explicitly recommend this company.
