Fragnet is a Swedish web and game hosting company. It claims to be a 'leading provider in online gaming services' and operates a network of servers spread over 30 different countries.
But how well do its products really work? Find out in this Fragnet review.
What is Fragnet?
Fragnet provides server hosting for 34 different games. That's slightly fewer than competing services such as Blue Fang Solutions, but the catalog still contains lots of popular titles like Battlefield 4, Left 4 Dead 2 or Minecraft.
Besides game and voice server hosting, Fragnet also offers standard web hosting and unmanaged dedicated servers.
In short, this is a unique gaming host that's able to support the needs of everyday website owners, as well as gamers.
Fragnet First Impressions
In my extensive series of gaming host reviews, I've seen plenty of outdated websites. Happily, Fragnet is not one of them. The Fragnet game inventory is easy to navigate and the site looks to be getting constant updates - meaning that it's likely to be a constantly-maintained service.
The buying process was very smooth as well. To order a game server, all I had to do was select the number of player slots I wanted and a server location. Fragnet's choice of 30 different countries makes this an ideal platform for international players.
Fragnet Minecraft: Great Features for Specific Games
Fragnet goes above and beyond with its provisions for certain titles. In the case of Fragnet Minecraft, support for multiple mod and plugin sources comes standard.
Useful Game Panel
Every game server includes access to a Fragnet Game Panel. I liked this feature as it allowed me to view resource use and install game plugins.
Fragnet Servers: Well-rounded Web Hosting
Initially, I expected Fragnet's regular hosting service to be a tacked-on afterthought.
However, the number of included features made it clear that Fragnet does take standard hosting seriously. By default, Fragnet servers come with SSL certificates, support for popular CMS programs such as WordPress and cPanel management software.
For game hosting, prices vary depending on the particular title you're interested in. Fragnet Minecraft prices begin at $10.60/month for 1GB RAM and 20 player slots. Newer games such as ARK begin at $35.91/month. By paying annually, you can get a 20% discount.
For standard web hosting, six different plans are available, ranging between $4.95/month and $36.3/month.
Plans in More Detail
Let's take a closer look at Fragnet's web hosting plans. Note that I have not displayed the 'Extreme 1' or 'Extreme 2' packages:
|No. of Domains||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited|
|HDD or SSD||HDD||HDD||HDD||HDD|
Unfortunately, Fragnet's regular hosting packages offer poor value for money. $4.95/month is exceptionally expensive for just 1GB of storage. It's also disappointing that all plans come with HDD instead or SSD storage, and an extremely short 5-day refund window.
I tested my Fragnet server load speed using Bitcatcha. The results were acceptable; visitors should have no trouble loading your pages. However, it's not a speed demon in any way. If you're interested in speed, there are many fast web hosting providers you can choose from.
Fragnet's game servers perform well and are worth considering thanks to their support for third-party mods. If the list includes the games you play, it's well worth a shot.
However, I cannot recommend Fragnet's regular web hosting packages. If you are looking for standard web hosting, I recommend you consider alternative hosts.
