Who is Homestead?

Homestead is a company founded in 1996. The company has been a favorite brand in the industry until recently when its glory appears to have been overshadowed by newer, more innovative competitors.

During its early years in the industry, Homestead was a leader in website creation, marketing, hosting business and other web services it offers. At least they claim that.

The company offers web services that help potential customers to start, maintain, and promote their online presence. It is, however, known more as a site builder than a hosting provider.

Homestead has gone through a lot of reformation and transformation to remain relevant in the web industry. For instance, in 2007, Intuit acquired Homestead and just about 5 years after, Homestead was sold to Endurance International Group (EIG).

More so, in this Homestead review, I want to find out whether Homestead can still be recommended as a good web service provider.

Are Homestead’s best days long gone?

Can the website building and hosting services offered by Homestead stand competition in the industry?

These and many other critical questions are what I want this Homestead review to answer.

You can try Homestead website building and launching soft for free for the first 30 days and it’s $7.99 thereafter. There is no strict commitment and you can cancel anytime (just don’t forget to do that).

So, now let’s look at the packages offered by the Homestead and what’s included in them.

Homestead Pricing & Plans

homestead review pricing and plans
  • Starter Plan: this plan covers website creation and hosting. The price is $7.99/month, and it includes 25 MB storage, 5 GB/ Month Bandwidth, 5 web pages, 30-day Free Trial, and 1 site.
  • Business Plan: this plan covers website creation and hosting, domain name, and Email. The price is $22.99/month, and it includes 5 GB storage, 100 GB/ Month Bandwidth, a domain name, 5 Email boxes, Free Setup, 100 web pages, 30-day Free Trial, and 3 sites.
  • Business plus Plan: this plan covers website creation and hosting, domain names, Email, and web listings. The price is $62.99/month, and it includes 10 GB storage, 500 GB/ Month Bandwidth, 3 domain names, 50 Email boxes, Free Setup, approximate unlimited web pages, 30-day Free Trial, and approximate unlimited sites.

The prices are not the lowest in the market, for a less money you can find more features, just browse through other great website builders.

Aside from the 30-day free trial, the prices are enough reasons for a potential customer to go for some other website creation providers whose packages are inexpensive.

In the table below, I will carefully explain what it will cost a client to use Homestead’s packages across a specific billing cycle.

Performance

In continuation of my Homestead review, I decided to find out the performance of Homestead’s server. When I subjected the server to a thorough test with a proven tool, I discovered that Homestead’s server speed is fast.

Hurray! There is one more thing Homestead can still brag about.

It takes the server less than 300 ms to load virtually in all the continents except in some parts of Asia. This is a significant achievement for the ancient web service provider.

However, Homestead is silent about its uptime- another essential performance feature to consider when choosing a hosting provider.

Homestead Pros and Cons

Moving on with the Homestead review, I will be highlighting the pros and cons of Homestead and its hosting plans. By doing that, you will be able to conclude if you will be going for Homestead or any of its alternatives.

Pros

This Homestead review shows that the hosting provider still provides some excellent features with its hosting plans. These include:

  • Excellent server Speed – Homestead’s server speed is exceptionally quick. This is a huge advantage that will make your site accessible without delay. Because of this, hosting your sites and businesses with Homestead means you are assured of getting visitors all over the globe.
  • A 30-day free trial – another fantastic advantage is the 30-day free trial. This is good in that you can use the services for 30 days before you are charged. I must say this is a good alternative for the usual money back guarantee given by other hosting providers, where you would be refunded if only you don’t enjoy the services within some given days.
  • Other pleasant website packages – Homestead offers some other great website packages such as web designing, SEO services, business listings, online market and all.

Cons

This Homestead review also shows the striking disadvantages of the services provided. These include:

  • Poor Storage capacity – this feature is a visible eyesore. None of the hosting plans provided by Homestead offers more than 10 GB storage space. I think the hosting provider is already planning to go into oblivion with this distasteful feature.
  • Extremely low bandwidth – where other hosting providers are busy upgrading their monthly bandwidth to unlimited, Homestead is still here offering 500 GB/month as the highest bandwidth for its most advanced hosting plan.
  • Expensive price – it pisses one off to also discover that Homestead charges high prices for relatively useless plans. Suppose the hosting provider charges high prices for valuable packages that have innovative features, it would have been better and understandable. But not at all, the services are the same oldies!
  • Poor support system – Homestead has no good support system. The hosting provider is only directly accessible through the phone while some other hosting providers have more than 3 viable channels through which they can be accessed.

Homestead Review – Should You Go Near it?

Sincerely, Homestead appears to be an old web service provider that has outlived its best days. One of the striking things this Homestead review has revealed is that the hosting provider cannot compete with its newer, innovative competitors.

You should never go near Homestead if you are in search of a website builder with hosting that can support your growing business as well as your high-performance sites. However, if you have any other web service to perform, you can enjoy Homestead’s 30-day free trial before deciding.

Do well to check out reviews on other hosting providers that provide quality features at affordable prices.
