Starting a website is a costly process. And it is very refreshing to find a hosting provider that offers decent services without taking all of your money. Hostica claims to be just that, but we will look into it further to see if Hostica is all it’s cracked up to be.

And while the Hostica website says their experience allows them to be one of the best web hosts in the world, let's test how this provider stands in the competition of affordable hosting.

Is Hostica a good option or should you give them a hard pass?

What Is Hostica?

If you have a business that you want to get online right away, Hostica has an array of services that will allow you to get started. Their services are more or less essential to get going:

  • Shared Hosting
  • VPS Hosting
  • Reseller Hosting
  • SSL Certificates
  • Website Builder

VPS is a solid hosting option, but many people do not have the need for it or the budget when they are starting out. For the sake of this Hostica review, we are going to focus in on the shared hosting service.

Founded in 1999, Hostica has been in the hosting game for almost 10 years. Being in the market for this time, Hostica states that years of experience makes its hosting packages worth the money.

But let’s dive into this Hostica review and find out what's really going on.

Hostica Pricing

Hostica has four plans for shared hosting and they start for as little as $1/mo with Starter plan. And the most advanced Prime plan costs only $13/mo.

Let’s have a quick look at Hostica's pricing options:

  • Starter – $1/mo, 1 domain included, 1 subdomain included, 1GB of disk space & 1GB of bandwidth.
  • Economy – $3/mo, 1 domain included, 3 subdomains included, 5GB of disk space, 10GB of bandwidth.
  • Value – $5/mo, 1 domain included, 10 subdomains included, 10GB of disk space, 50GB bandwidth.
  • Prime – $13/mo, unlimited domains, unlimited subdomains, unlimited disk space unlimited bandwidth.

The possible subscription terms can vary. With Value and Prime, you can choose from 1, 3 or 12 months. The cheaper plans -  Starter and Economy - have only a 12-month option. But in any case, the monthly cost stays the same no matter the subscription period. That is nice to see, as many providers tend to make very complicated pricing systems.

However, looking at the product worth, it doesn't offer much. Here's a comparison of basic features in all Hosticas plans:

Usually hosting providers have very limited starter packages, but with Hostica, basically, all three plans are very small. It's a rare occasion that a website could fit into 1 GB space. And having less than 100 GB bandwidth is very limiting. 

For the unlimited service, you are going to be putting out a considerable amount of money. And most likely, it will be more than many other web hosting sites. With $13 being the price of unlimited, there are other options that will allow you to start hosting your website for as little as $2 per month.

But not only space and bandwidth are disappointing. Hostica fails to include such essential features as anti-DDoS or anti-malware protection. Not to mention, such nice things as assisted website transfer are not included. And this is the part, where we find the upsells.

Thing is, Hostica plays a trick with missing features. You get a very cheap hosting price, but then to have a fully functioning hosting, you have to purchase all the add-ons. And, believe me, these features might be quite essential: SSL certificates, email security, backups, and so on. This will skyrocket your order summary!

For example, taking the Economy plan the price for a year is $35.00. However, when basic security and backup features added the total amount becomes $129,82. And that is very far from something you'd call a cheap option.

It's the same with other plans and any billing cycle so there's one thing for sure -  that incredible $1/mo price is not going to be final of what you'll pay.

Well, at least you get the standard 30-day money back guarantee, and probably that will be enough time to notice how that tiny bandwidth messes up your website's traffic.

So far in this Hostica review, we’ve figured out that Hostica pricing is steeper than some other similar hosts. Let’s see if things get better as we move forward.

Hostica Performance

We tested Hostica to see how fast your response times would be if you use their service. Sadly, the response time is not impressive at all.

That is no surprise knowing that Hostica uses HDD servers and have only one server location in the US. In such case, the speed isn't something to expect. Not to mention more distant regions.

Compared to other providers, Hostica's response time from Japan is not too bad. But then again, the response time from Europe could be much better...

So overall, Hostica provides a very average performance.

Hostica Pros

Now we come to the fun part of the Hostica review, we get to say all kinds of nice things about them, or at least what we could find.

Uptime Guarantee

With a 99.9% uptime guarantee, this is as good of a guarantee you are going to see. They pride themselves on having a redundancy. So your website is not going down when people are trying to view and possibly buy a product or service from you.

Website Builder Included

Having a website builder included is very helpful. Most people are not technically inclined and it can be challenging. There are upsells to use Weebly’s website builder, so make sure you remember you do have a website builder included for free. Weebly’s is better quality, but you can still get by with the Hostica free option if needed.

Slow customer support

Everyone is used to getting instant access to information and when you need help, you want to make sure it is available to you. There are two customer support options – live chat and email, but the email wasn’t listed as a support option since “live” chat is not live and they will email you after you’ve entered your information. They are basically the same channel of support. And there is no phone number to get in contact with the company.

Lack of features

No SSL included, no SSD servers, very limited disk space and bandwidth (except Prime package), no anti-malware protection... And the list goes on.

High pricing

Paying $13 per month for shared hosting isn’t necessary with all of the great options available. There are other hosting providers that have 99.9% uptime and charge a fraction of what Hostica is asking.

Performance is less than impressive

The lack of wow factor with performance doesn’t warrant the price you are going to pay to have the unlimited top plan. If you’re going to put out that kind of money, the hosting resources need to be top of the line and firing fast.

Hostica Review – Is Hostica Right for You?

In this Hostica review, we’ve gone over a lot of information and it’s all pointing to a no for Hostica. Most people that have reviewed and used Hostica tend to agree the Hostica is definitely not the best hosting options available to you.

You might like the small prices, but just look at how many missing features you'll have to purchase additionally! Weak performance and close to none customer support also aren't adding much value.

All in all, Hostica just doesn't shine. And sadly, we’re going to have to give Hostica a thumbs down. You'll most certainly find better hosting options on the market, even for the smallest prices!

    I’ve been a customer since 2002 and up until recently, I’ve not had any problems with their support. However, something must have changed in their tech support department because their response is now non-existent. I’ve asked the same question several times for the last 5 days and have yet to receive a reply. It’s a simple question, “do you perform automatic and periodic backups of websites that you host?”

    My website was hacked and basically completely destroyed and is no longer useable. If they don’t have a backup copy it’ll cost a few thousand dollars and 2 weeks to rebuild it from scratch. Obviously, if they do have a backup copy, it’ll save a few thousand dollars and 2 weeks.

    Any website hosting company must put customer service at the top of their priority list. It’s obvious that Hostica does not! Because of this, I would not recommend them at all! There are plenty of hosting sites that value their good customers but Hostica is not one of them. Stay away!

    Performance Pricing User friendly Support Features

    I’ve been using Hostica for years (a little over 7) and have never had a problem with either the site, their service or their offerings. That was until about a month ago. At that point, they offered a NEW ‘friendly’ interface, and several people actively helped me switch my websites around so I had my website ideally set up.
    The problem? I haven’t been able to sign in since! I can’t sign in to the billing site to change my password (no clue where that feature is), I can’t sign into my email, so my private email server is deader than a doornail, and I can’t access my website, so I’m OUT of business.
    Oh sure, they keep ‘helping’, and resetting passwords and helping me out, but each time I access the site EVERY password is changed, passwords on the billing site don’t work on the customer/services site, the passwords for my email don’t work from one day to the next, and despite their holding my hand, I can’t even log in to my site anymore.
    I don’t know whose bright idea it was to give the site a ‘bright and shiny new interface’, but they’ve destroyed my business, and now I’m stuck without ANY website or email, and I’m scrambling to find a new webserver. But hey, at least the interface isn’t crowded with too many options!
    A great service at a cheap price, overnight turned into an inaccessible nightmare, and after weeks, I’m no closer to signing in than I was!
