What is HostNine?

HostNine is a hosting provider offering shared, cloud VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting solutions, as well as domain names.

Founded back in 2006, HostNine was later picked up by Endurance International Group, which is known to own hosting giants like Bluehost and Hostgator.

And while EIG group is known to wear respectable hosts down, HostNine is thriving.

With this cooperation, it started spreading their data centers all over the world. To provide better connectivity, HostNine has set up data centers in the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, and Asia. All these efforts zero down to minimizing the downtime and providing better performance to international audiences.

Does it mean HostNine is a fast and reliable host?

HostNine thrives on meeting the demands of all kinds of clients – from low traffic blogs to huge online stores. It promises performance, reliability, and security. Also, HostNine promises to be user-friendly; with one-click installation platforms such as WordPress and Joomla, they are trying to gain popularity with everyone.

To give you a better taste of the services and the features, we have prepared this bulletproof HostNine review.

Services Offered by HostNine

HostNine offers a handful of services for all kinds of customers, including:

  • Shared Hosting.
  • Reseller Hosting.
  • Cloud VPS Hosting.
  • Dedicated Hosting.
  • Domain Registration.
  • SSL Certificates.

As you can see, they pretty much cover all aspects you might need for hosting your site. Their shared hosting is for Linux only and comes with three plans.

Other hosting services such as Reseller hosting comes with four different packs and Cloud VPS comes with five different packages to choose from.

Unfortunately, none of them offers Windows hosting services.

At this instant, everything looks good. Let’s jump on to the next section of our HostNine review and see the most popular - shared hosting plans.

HostNine Pricing

HostNine has 3 shared hosting plans to choose from, the cheapest of which costs $6.99/month. Upgrading to the more expensive Business plan will cost $11.09/month. You can purchase the most expensive, Enterprise plan, for $14.99/month. The prices are valid if you choose to pay yearly.

Let's take a look at what you can get with each of the plans:

Personal -  The pack will cost you $6.99/mo. Unfortunately, this pricing is only available if you go for the 1-year billing cycle. Other than that, they also offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth. The plan further includes unlimited email and FTP accounts. If you want to check it out for a month, you'll have to pay up $8.99/mo.

Business -  This package starts at $11.09/mo. However, the same condition works here too. You'll have to go for the minimum 1-year billing cycle to be eligible for the reduced price. The features of disk space and bandwidth are the same as others. It also covers unlimited FTP and email accounts. To test them for a month, you’ll need to pay $14.79, which is a bit pricey.

Enterprise - This offer will cost you $14.99/mo. However, the price is for longer billing cycles only. The data limitations are the same as the other two packs. Yet, you get a dedicated IP The regular monthly pricing of this pack is $19.99.

HostNine Pros

HostNine has a number of features to be proud of.

The provider is fast and offers a number of server locations to choose from. Also, it will refund you for 45 days in case you don't like the service.

Check the details

1. Good Response Time

We checked out HostNine response time to get a better look at their performance. And it was great. HostNine averaged at a speed below 180ms, which is well below of the industry standard (553ms). The US times are even better - you can expect response time to be lower than 50ms

What can we tell from this? HostNine is one of the fastest hosts we've reviewed. If you are looking for exactly that - it could be your choice.

2. 45-day Money Back Guarantee

Most of the hosting providers out there only offer a 30-day money back guarantee. Thus, you will be able to check them out within this date without losing your money.

In this case, HostNine goes ahead and offers an additional 15 days to that.

In total, you’ll get 45-days to check them out.

And there's no hassle of getting your refund. Once we contacted the support, money was promptly transferred to our account.

3. Data Center Selection

Choosing the data center is kind of luxury as most of the companies don't offer this feature. It allows you to get closer to the target audience and improve page loading times for them.

HostNine will give you the option for that. They have data centers in Amsterdam, Singapore, the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

So choose one closest to your visitors and you should observe decreasing bounce rates and increasing conversions due to the faster loading times. That's especially important for eCommerce.

HostNine Cons

HostNine does not avoid some drawbacks.

Its uptime is definitely not the best, as well as customer support. Also, you'll need to pay some cash to get HostNine's fast hosting.

1. Bad Uptime

Performance is one of the main selling points of every hosting provider. That being said, if the provider can't guarantee a reasonable uptime, they won't likely be a good provider in the first place.

And while HostNine guarantees 99.9% uptime, it didn't manage to go above 99.66% during our testing.

This result is definitely not a good output as their servers can be down for almost 5 minutes every day.

2. Too many paid features and pricey plans

As we can see, the plans don't really fall under the "cheap" category. They are quite pricey. If you are on a budget, then it's best to look for a cheaper solution.

But there's even more.

Once you host your website on the servers, you'll notice small investments here and there. Ultimately, this raises the bar too high. It makes all of their pricing a bit out of the budget.

3. Bad Customer Support

HostNine provides live chat support for sales. However, when we contacted them, they didn't even reply to our questions. We were waiting for 12 hours to get feedback, but we didn't.

This fact is disappointing.

However, once we signed up and tested HostNine, the support was able to refund our money fast.

HostNine Review – Should You Spend Your Dime?

As far as the HostNine review goes, we can not give them a great rating. Yes, HostNine has great response times, and data centers spread all over for the sake of performance.

But there are some features dragging it down.

It's the pricey plans, not-so-good uptime, and slow customer support

Though if you are really focused on lightning-fast performance, you can check HostNine out and decide then. You can also take a look at other great hosting providers
