MacHighway doesn't offer a wide selection of services - but it's still a very interesting provider to have a look at. That's because this hosting company aims to offer premium web hosting for all Mac users.
This fact is quite intriguing as we haven't seen that much companies who are working specifically to support the Mac community. But every company boasts of its services claiming to be the best in the market.
That’s why we decided to do this MacHighway review to show you the brighter picture. We are here to analyze the features, web hosting services, pricing policies, dependability, and customer support.
Let’s not waste any more words and go straight to the MacHighway review.
What is MacHighway?
MacHighway doesn’t have much to put on the table. They only include few services to get you started:
- VPS Hosting
- Shared Hosting
- Domain Names
- SSL Certificates
As you can see, they don't have any dedicated or reseller hosting options. The VPS hosting service comes with three different packages. On the other hand, the shared hosting also covers three different plans to choose from.
Not much to offer, but on the positive side, we can look forward to better quality as they don't have to waste extra resources.
Now, let’s move on to the next phase of our MacHighway review.
MacHighway offers 3 hosting plans - their prices go from $2.95/month to $6.95/month, and are just about average for a regular shared hosting provider. Not too high, not too low.
These are the plans:
- Small: This pack starts at $2.95/mo. It comes with 10 GB disk space and unlimited bandwidth. It also offers 20 Email and 10 FTP accounts.
- Medium: The plan will cost you $4.95/mo. Medium hosting plan comes with unlimited disk space and bandwidth. However, it only offers 20 FTP accounts and unlimited bandwidth.
- Large: This hosting plan will cost $6.95/mo. If you want more flexibility, then it might be the right choice for you. It comes with unlimited bandwidth, disk space, FTP, and Email accounts.
MacHighway Plans in More Detail
The plans look comparatively cheaper than from the majority of hosting providers. Well, they are not! You know what? These prices are only eligible if you choose a three-year billing cycle! For example, the Small package is not that small when you pay $106.20 for it!
Real monthly prices for plans are (if you don't want to pay for a year, two or three):
However, we still have to figure out whether these plans will be able to deal with all your needs or not. That's why we compiled this table with all the necessary information you might need for making a decision:
|Disk Space||10 GB||Unlimited||Unlimited|
|How many domains allowed?||2||5||Unlimited|
|HDD or SSD used in servers?||SSD||SSD||SSD|
|Yes (Paid)||Yes (Paid)|
|Yes (Paid)||Yes (Paid)|
|Assisted website transfer||Yes (Paid)||Yes (Paid)||Yes (Paid)|
|Customer support||Ticket, phone, email||Ticket, phone, email||Ticket, phone, email|
|Choice of server location||No (USA-only)||No (USA-only)||No (USA-only)|
|Free automated back-ups||No||No||No|
MacHighway guarantees 99.9% uptime which is nor good nor bad amongst hosting providers. That's why most hosting providers offer compensation if they fail to keep their servers up for the promised time. But not in MacHighway case. Using our uptime calculator we've checked for how long the hosting could go down:
As we can see, this means that your web page can be down for only 1m 26s throughout every day. Let's just hope monthly downtime will not happen during the busiest hour.
Let's move on with my MacHighway review and see how they will perform:
MacHighway showed an average performance. Although, if you are not interested in Asia at all, this might not be a problem. Response times from the US and Europe are pretty decent.
Pros of MacHighway
Overall, MacHighway is a pretty good host, and there are some things I liked about it. Here's what they are:
Not every web hosting service provider offers a free cPanel. MacHighway can ease up the minds of the users with the very-desired cPanel. The great news is - the CMS is offered with every service plan for free. Hence, maintaining your website will be much easier and simple with a cPanel.
30-day Money Back Guarantee
Finding the company which guarantees your satisfaction makes you fortunate. MacHighway guarantees to give your money back within 30 days if you don't like their services. So, if you want to "just try them out," this option might be handy. Now you can try out their service for a couple of days, and if they fail to meet your desires, you can cancel them out.
Cons of MacHighway
But of course - no hosting provider is perfect. And in this part of the MacHighway review, let's have a look at this company's drawbacks.
Terrible Customer Support
The first negative side of their service is their customer support. First of all, they don't have any live chat option. They have an e-mail query service, but we didn't get any response from them even after two days.
Although they offer direct phone calls, still the call service is not toll-free for international customers. Apart from the lousy customer support, they even have a terrible reputation for tech support.
Paid Website Transfer
Users might need to transfer their website to a different hosting. We expected them to provide this service for free. But apparently, you need to pay them to get this basic service.
Paid Automated Backup
Your website might crash down due to multiple reasons. It’s always better to have a backup of your website. MacHighway can provide automated backup but you need to spend more money to get it. You cannot expect such features to be a paid one from a brand which boasts of their affordability.
MacHighway Review – Are They Really Worth It?
We had really high hopes of MacHighway. Though they have some great features, their customer services, and paid options and billing cycles make them a pretty average web hosting service.
We would conclude MacHighway to be an average service.
