Low-priced hosting with superb performance? MochaHost claims to bring you exactly that. Cheap pricing, unlimited bandwidth, and other features sure look attractive. However, often the reality is different from promises.
For this MochaHost review, we're taking a closer look at MochaHost's shared hosting. Let's see if it can be the best hosting provider for your website!
What is MochaHost?
MochaHost is a company offering several types of hosting. But not only that. This provider also has other services such as domain names and SSL certificates to give you a full package for your website.
Here is a full list of MochaHost services:
- Shared Hosting
- Dedicated Hosting
- Reseller Hosting
- VPS Hosting
- SSL Certificates
- Domain Names
- Website Builder
- Internet Marketing
This provider definitely aims to cover everything you need to get you started. And the hosting covers both Linux and Windows operating systems.
MochaHost has been in the market since 2002 and its primary data center is located in California. But it has servers in seven other locations around the world.
Along with hosting services, you can find a website builder and internet marketing. So here you can create the design for your website and also promote your business with things like email marketing or SEO tools.
If you are looking for a hosting provider that offers you the whole package, then MochaHost can be a company worth considering.
However, promises are one thing and the reality is another. Therefore for this MochaHost review, we're digging deeper into the most popular - shared web hosting - plans and pricing. Let's see how it compares to the rest of the competition.
MochaHost offers three shared hosting plans and they start as low as $1.95/mo. All of them have unlimited monthly traffic and disk space.
Take a quick look at MochaHost pricing for shared web hosting:
- Soho - starts at $1.95/mo. However, this rate is only possible if you take their 3-year billing cycle. Otherwise, the plan costs $2.45/mo. Soho offers unlimited disk space and bandwidth. It also comes with unlimited Email and FTP accounts. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want to have a small business site.
- Business - this one also comes with a discount offer and it will cost you $3.48/mo. It offers unlimited disk space, bandwidth, email, and FTP accounts. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want to start an eCommerce business.
- Mocha - this plan starts at $5.59/mo. However, you will only get this price if you commit to their 3-year plan. This plan has all features from the Business plan and more: 50 PostgreSQL databases, content delivery networks, merchant account for safe credit card transfers, premium backups, and others. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want a high traffic website.
The renewal costs get higher with Soho and Mocha plans and MochaHost stays transparent about that. You see the renewal prices right in the plan offer.
Talking about the features MochaHost includes SSD servers with all plans. A provider using new generation hardware is always respectable!
Also, Business and Mocha plans come with anti-DDoS protection and anti-malware protection, and every plan comes with free SSL to ensure your website security. And all plans have Auto-installer included with over 450 scripts to expand your website possibilities.
Another thing the higher plans offer is MochaHost in-house website builder. But that might not be the best asset. Thing is, this website builder has incredibly outdated the designs (same as the MochaHost's home page).
But let's go back to technicalities. For those who already have websites and are looking to change hosting providers, the higher MochaHost plans offer free assisted website transfer.
This way you can sit back and relax when a team of professionals does all the tricky part of transferring your website.
Finally, there's a 30-day money-back guarantee but you can also cancel your plans within 180 days. MochaHost allows to end the contract and although does not refund fully, you would get back the money for the unused part of the subscription term.
Every hosting provider has a good and a bad side. Along with all the regular features included in plans, here are the MochaHost advantages that stand out.
Excellent response time
MochaHost averages a speed below 180ms, which is quite exceptional. The standard response time for a typical site is 500ms and MochaHost is almost way faster than that.
Free SSL certificate
Each MochaHost plan comes with a free SSL certificate for a lifetime. This way, you won’t have to spend extra bucks on SSL certification anymore. They got you covered with their hosting plans.
But here is that other side, where things aren't so great. Offering great promises, MochaHosts doesn't really live up to all of them.
Very limited features for the starter pack
MochaHost boasts with its lowest-priced Soho plan. However, that price will probably grow significantly when you add up all the unincluded but crucial features. One domain allowed, no malware protection or backups included - these are just a few of what's missing.
Compared to other hosting providers on the market this was indeed a letdown. With MochaHost you will get flexibility only with the high priced plans.
MochaHost advertises to provide 100% uptime. It's not the only provider promising this, but it still sounds very impressive. However, MochaHost is actually able to ensure 99.94% uptime.
Although this seems a very small difference from the advertised number, it can hurt your website. 99.94% of uptime can result in almost half an hour of downtime each month. And if you're running a business, you want your website to be available for every potential customer at any time.
Bad customer support
MochaHost offers a lot of options to reach them. You will get a 24/7 live chat, ticket, and phone system to reach out about any technical support. This is one of the crucial parts of our MochaHost review, that’s why we reached out to their live chat support to see how knowledgeable they are.
To our surprise, they failed even to answer the most straightforward questions. They also took a lot of time to reply and mostly I had to wait for 10-20 minutes after every question we asked. Such kind of behavior really left me disappointed.
MochaHost Review – Are They Really Worth It?
If you want a provider with everything in one place, MochaHost might be the right way to go. They come with great response time and uptime and a long list of useful features.
However, the cheapest plan doesn't really have that much. So to have the flexibility you need, the pricier plans would be your choice. But then there's unreliable uptime and the customer support is far from helpful.
All in all, MochaHost can be a decent option. However, before making the last call, check out other offers - there are some great hosting providers to select from.
- Free SSL
- Great response time
- 180 days risk fee cancellation
- Poor customer support
- Unreliable uptime
- Very limited starter plan
