Low-priced hosting with superb performance? MochaHost claims to bring you exactly that. Affordable pricing, unlimited bandwidth, and other features sure look attractive. And it turns that the reality is really closed to what is promised.
For this MochaHost review, we're taking a closer look at MochaHost's shared hosting. Let's see if it can be the best hosting provider for your website!
What is MochaHost?
MochaHost is a company offering several types of hosting. But not only that. This provider also has other services such as domain names and SSL certificates to give you a full package for your website.
Here is a full list of MochaHost services:
- Shared Hosting
- Dedicated Hosting
- Reseller Hosting
- VPS Hosting
- Application hosting (WordPress, Joomla!, Magento, Drupal)
- SSL Certificates
- Domain Names
- Website Builder
- Internet Marketing
This provider definitely aims to cover everything you need to get you started. And the hosting covers both Linux and Windows operating systems.
Through the partnership established with CloudFlare, your site content can be replicated and cached throughout multiple locations. That improves your site speed as well as your SEO.
MochaHost has been in the market since 2002 and its primary data center is located in Chicago, Illinois. But it has servers in seven other locations around the world.
Along with hosting services, you can find a website builder and an Internet marketing bundle. So here you can create the design for your website and also promote your business with things like email marketing or SEO tools.
You can enjoy low latency and high speeds from every location, worldwide.
If you are looking for a hosting provider that offers you the whole package, then MochaHost is definitely a company worth considering.
We're digging deeper into the most popular - shared web hosting plans and pricing. Let's see how it compares to the rest of the competition.
MochaHost offers three shared hosting plans and they start as low as $1.95/mo. All of them have unlimited monthly traffic and disk space.
Take a quick look at MochaHost pricing for shared web hosting:
- Soho - starts at $1.95/mo. This rate is only possible if you take their 3-year billing cycle. Otherwise, the plan costs $2.48/mo. Soho offers unlimited disk space and bandwidth. It also comes with unlimited Email and FTP accounts. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want to have one small business site, personal site or blog.
- Business - this one also comes with a discount offer and it will cost you $3.48/mo. It offers unlimited disk space, bandwidth, email, and FTP accounts. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want to start an eCommerce business.
- Mocha - this plan starts at $5.59/mo if you commit to the 3-year billing cycle. This plan has all features from the Business plan and more: 50 PostgreSQL databases, content delivery networks, merchant account for safe credit card transfers, premium backups, and others. MochaHost recommends this plan if you want a high traffic website.
The renewal costs get higher with Soho and Mocha plans if you choose the billing cycle different than a 3-year one. And MochaHost stays transparent about that. You see the renewal prices right in the plan offer.
Talking about the features MochaHost includes SSD servers with all plans. A provider using new generation hardware is always respectable!
Also, Business and Mocha plans come with anti-DDoS protection and anti-malware protection, and every plan comes with free SSL to ensure your website security. And all plans have Auto-installer included with over 450 scripts to expand your website possibilities.
Another perk the higher plans offer is MochaHost in-house website builder with multiple designs that the customers can use for the impressive web-design they need.
But let's go back to technicalities. For those who already have websites and are looking to change hosting providers, the MochaHost plans offer free assisted website transfer from any provider that uses cPanel as a control panel.
This way you can sit back and relax when a team of professionals does all the tricky part of transferring your website.
There's a 30-day money-back guarantee but you can also cancel your plans within 180 days. MochaHost allows us to end the contract and although it does not refund fully, you would get back the money for the unused part of the subscription term.
Every hosting provider has a good and a bad side. Along with all the regular features included in plans, here are the MochaHost advantages that stand out.
Excellent response time
MochaHost averages a speed below 180ms, which is quite exceptional. The standard response time for a typical site is 500ms and MochaHost is way faster than that.
Free SSL certificate
Each MochaHost plan comes with a free SSL certificate for a lifetime. This way, you won’t have to spend extra bucks on SSL certification anymore. They got you covered with their hosting plans.
Free domain name
There are plans that offer free domain registration (.com, .org, .net, .biz) with the 1-year and 2-year billing cycles. These can be seen in the ‘Specials’ section of their website.
Renewal pricing is better
Most other hosting companies out there use to provide a discounted price for the initial billing cycle only, whereas MochaHost offers price-lock with the 3-year billing cycles of most plans. So you can enjoy this price as long as you host here.
But here is that other side, where things aren't so great.
Very limited features for the starter pack
MochaHost boasts with its lowest-priced Soho plan. However, that price will probably grow significantly when you add up all the crucial features that are not included in it. One domain allowed, no malware protection or backups included - these are just a few of what's missing.
This plan lacks the flexibility the high priced plans have.
MochaHost advertises to provide 100% uptime. It's not the only provider promising this, but it still sounds very impressive. However, MochaHost is actually able to ensure 99.993% uptime.
99.993% of uptime can hurt your website – it can result in almost half an hour of downtime per year or around 3 minutes per month. If you're running a business, you want your website to be available for every potential customer at any time.
Customer support must offer more
MochaHost offers a lot of options to reach them. You will get a 24/7 live chat with live persons, ticket troubleshooting, and extensive knowledgebase available for self-technical support. This is one of the crucial parts of our MochaHost review, that’s why we reached out to their live chat support to see how knowledgeable they are.
To our surprise, they were among the best considering waiting on the queue (almost none) but were not quite fast providing answers to the most straightforward questions. It took them considerable time to reply, as I had to wait for around a minute after every single question I asked.
In the end, I was served, but my time was up as well…Such kind of slowness must be considered as well, although not the worst at all.
MochaHost Review – Are They Really Worth It?
If you want a provider with everything in one place, MochaHost can be the right way to go. They come with great response time and uptime and a long list of useful features. Their pricing is very good, compared to the competition, and especially for the redundant packages that are offered.
However, the cheapest plan doesn't really have that much. So to have the flexibility you need, the pricier plans would be your choice. You may think of self-help in the most frequently reported issues, as the available knowledge base is there for you, and the customer support will need some time in order to be helpful, especially in the more sophisticated cases.
All in all, MochaHost can be a decent option. Compared to other providers they perform better in certain points that were found to be important for our audience. We recommend checking out their current offers and specials.
- Free SSL
- Great response time
- 180 days risk fee cancellation
- Free domain registration with most plans
- Customer support could be faster
- Uptime is not 100%, although close to that figure
- Starter plan is relatively limited in features
