ScalaHosting is a mid-range web hosting company that claims to offer ‘scalable hosting solutions’. They offer a wide range of shared and VPS web hosting options - appearing to have something for everyone.
However, will my ScalaHosting review show them to be just another hosting company? Or will they stand out above the rest? Let's find out.
ScalaHosting at First Glance
At first glance, I have to say that ScalaHosting looks somewhat professional. Their website is well built and they outline their services clearly and concisely.
I also found that their customer support was helpful and responsive, and they offer their customers a 30-day money back guarantee, which is always a positive sign.
Overall, a good start to my ScalaHosting review.
Although ScalaHosting does claim to offer a range of different hosting solutions, a quick review showed that many of them are just variations of the same thing. For example, their ‘Web' and 'WordPress' hosting plans offer very similar features, for very similar prices.
So unless you know the specific type of hosting you need, I’d recommend going with one of their web hosting plans - which you can see below:
I feel like their 'Start' plan offers pretty much everything you’ll need for your new website. And at just $4.95 per month, its affordability beats some of the more common hosting companies - so much so that they created a comparison chart for us.
Plans In More Detail
Further review of ScalaHosting’s pricing plans proved that everything wasn't as good as it first seemed.
One thing that stood out to me was that they don’t offer a secure SSL certificate with any of their hosting plans. Instead, if you want to secure your site with an SSL, you have to pay for it separately.
And no, it’s not cheap...
However, the rest of ScalaHosting’s features seem very reasonable. They offer unlimited domain hosting, unlimited email accounts, and unmetered bandwidth.
They also provide free access to the Weebly website builder which I thought was a pretty cool add-on.
|Disk Space Limit||10GB||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited|
|How many domains allowed||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited||Unlimited|
|SSD or HDD servers||SSD||SSD||SSD||SSD|
|Website Builder||Included (Weebly)||Included (Weebly)||Included (Weebly)||Included (Weebly)|
|Money Back Guarantee||30 Days||30 Days||30 Days||30 Days|

So, does ScalaHosting’s performance match their features?
The average ScalaHosting response time was around 350ms. On my scorecard, ScalaHosting receives a 'good' in this department.
ScalaHosting is doing a great job, and I think that the rest of their features along with these response times are certainly something to shout about.
ScalaHosting Review Round-Up
Although they aren’t as popular as big name hosting providers like GoDaddy or HostGator, ScalaHosting seems to offer services which are at a similar level.
Their plans are reasonably priced, and they include a lot of features that you won’t get with some other providers.
I’d certainly recommend taking advantage of their 30-day money back guarantee if you’re looking for a hosting provider with a small community and a solid reputation. Where's the harm in taking it for a test drive?
