WebHostingPad aims to grab the attention of people looking for cheap, yet powerful hosting. But even though it's inexpensive, this platform promises great quality for your money.
Is this possible? Can WebHostingPad combine low prices, reliable services, and high-quality customer service? Or is there something else that we should know?
What Is WebHostingPad?
WebHostingPad is a company with quality and affordable hosting. It offers reliable support, good security, and easy-to-use Weebly website builder.
Here's the list of the services that this company has:
- Shared Hosting
- WordPress Hosting
- Weebly Hosting
- Email-Only Hosting
- VPS Hosting
For this WebHostingPad review, we're going to focus on its shared hosting - the most popular service package that it has.
WebHostingPad offers three plans for shared hosting. The cheapest option starts at $1.99 but when going for a shorter term you the price rises.
Let's get a quick look:
- Power Plan Hosting - starts at only $1.99 per month, giving you unlimited hosting space, bandwidth, email accounts, FTP accounts, and hosted domains.
- Power Plan Plus - starts at $4.99 per month, includes a free SSL certificate, advanced web stats, premium backup service,
- Power Plan mini - starts at $3.00 per month and is for one-page sites or small projects. It provides you with 100GB bandwidth, 5GB disk space, 100 email accounts and a free site-builder (WordPress, Weebly, or RV Site Builder).
But, this is pricing is not as straightforward as it may seem.
That impressively cheap deal for only $1.99 is only if you commit to WebHostingPad for 48 months. For 12 month deal, the price almost doubles up to $3.99.
And keep in mind that WebHostingPad charges in advance. Meaning that when purchasing plan for a $4.99/mo for 4 years, you will be charged $239.52 at a check-out.
Here is how the checkout looks like:
However, while doing this WebHostingPad review, it was good to see this provider being completely transparent about its pricing scheme. All the pricing tables are easily found on their page.
So how much exactly you will be paying for each plan? Everything is quite clear in the table below.
|Payment Period||Power Plan||Power Plan Plus||Power Plan mini|
Another thing is the renewals. After the first term, WebHostingPad charges at a regular price, which is higher. And that is not a rare thing with hosting providers.
But they also are open about it. So you know it before purchasing the plan. And for the renewal of any plan, prices rise by $2.00 per month, so that is not a terrible price increase.
However - this is completely different on the Power Plan mini. Which renews at the same price as your first period. It's uncertain why has the company decided to do that - but if you're looking for a plan with no increasing renewal prices, Power Plan mini is an option for you.
And finally, if you end up disliking this provider, you have a 30-day money-back guarantee.
WebHostingPad Unlimits Your Page
Now, let’s see how the plans look in more detail. And there are many things to be happy about.
|Power Plan||Power Plan Plus||Power Plan mini|
|Disk Space||Unlimited||Unlimited||5 GB|
|Customer support||Email, chat, phone||Email, chat, phone||Email, chat, phone|
|Free automated back-ups||No||Yes||No|
An interesting thing emerges here - Power Plan mini is once more an odd plan out. With a different pricing structure, it's also the only plan not offering unlimited website, bandwidth, and disk space.
When it comes to Power Plan and Power Plan Plus, you get plenty of resources - for a very reasonable price, too.
On all the plans, WebHostingPad equips you with cPanel to administer the webpage. And it's one of the best options you can choose from, so that's a plus.
To build the website itself, plans include a very easy-to-use Weebly website builder.
With your hosting plan, you will get 50 beautiful templates to choose from. All of them are editable from the ground up, if desired. And if you won't find a suitable one, you can purchase additional options directly from Weebly.
What is also really nice, that the Anti-DDoS protection is included as well as Anti-malware protection. The security of your website is a must-have and many providers try upsells with this. WebHostingPad provides that with each package free of charge.
And finally, good news for those who already have websites, and are thinking about transferring. WebHostingPad's technical team will assist you for free - that's included in both plans. Although the transfer size shouldn't exceed 2 GB - so bad news if your website is a bit more media-heavy.
However, WebHostingPad does not provide with SSL in the entry-level plan. Starting with summer 2018, Google Chrome has started to mark all websites with no SSL certificate as 'Not Secure'. For pages looking to incite trust of their legitimacy, an SSL is now a necessity.
This is why it's sad to see WebHostingPad not including an SSL with their entry plan.
However, you can always use a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt to secure yourself. And if the complex setup process is a bit too much for you, this is where the add-ons step in.
$24.95 a year to have an SSL certificate you could get from free elsewhere? Not ideal.
The SSL is not the only expensive issue of WebHostingPad - take look at the providers' backup policy. Although it says, that free backups are included in the Power Plan Plus package, there are some clauses.
If your site exceeds the 3GB limit, WebHostingPad will not take backups. Knowing that bigger websites take 2-4 GB, for many users, this policy is on the verge of useless.
Also, those backups are only monthly. That's a long time - many providers usually aim for nightly backups.
And they are not automatic - you are responsible for that. If you are unable to restore the files, WebHostingPad's team can do that for a one-time fee of $39.95. But that does not promise all the data will be retrieved.
In a general view, WebHostingPad provides good tools, but there are some missing crucial pieces.
WebHostingPad Customer Service
WebHostingPad claims to be very user-friendly and puts a lot of focus on customer support. It has a US-based team for that and offers phone, live chat or e-mail services.
The technical support is available 24/7 for your convenience. Although the phone line has limited hours on weekends: from 9 AM to 6 PM (CST). But you still can reach out through live chat or e-mail.
And that live chat is blazing fast. One minute - this is how much on average we took to get hold of a live chat representative. It's a very good result, matching even the current industry leaders. They were very helpful and had quick answers.
Besides that, the provider has a knowledge base along with video tutorials. These are covering the basic questions in a simple manner. It will definitely be useful for beginner users.
However, there's an issue. And that issue comes in the form of billing support. The live chat simply doesn't provide it - instead, it directs you to the email support. And just like that, many simple questions can be solved not in a couple of minutes, but half a day.
So as you can see, WebHostingPad has a strong focus on the support and that shows.
Now, it's time for the big test - the server performance. And WebHostingPad doesn't seem to be very confident about what it can do. It guarantees an uptime of only 99% and that is rather average.
Sure, 99% looks like a nice number, but for an uptime guarantee, that's simply not enough. If your site was up 99% of the time, it would be down for 7 hours per month! That converts into 3 days per year.
Also, a regular website hosted on WebHostingPad is only above average when it comes to GTMetrix performance results:
It should be noted, that the performance differs from the plan. For Power Plan (the one tested here) and Power Plan mini you get HDD server, and for Power Plan Plus you will be upgraded to SSD servers.
The later ones provide higher speeds and are more reliable. That makes sense, as having more advanced hosting requires more advanced servers.
Another thing is the international server location. In many cases, you expect visitors from many parts of the globe. And WebHostingPad has that covered - but only partly.
You have options to choose your server location. But those choices are limited.
With servers in USA, China, and South Korea, it has international coverage, but it's mostly spread around South-East Asia. It's okay if your visitors are coming from there. But if you have people visiting from other regions, it may be a mess.
That being said, here are the response time tests, using WebHostingPad's USA server: really good in the US - not so much abroad.
The performance is not horrible, but you can see where WebHostingPad cuts corners.
WebHostingPad Review – Is It A Good Choice?
If you're looking for many features at an affordable price point, WebHostingPad is fairly good value. You get unmetered resources for a very competitive price point. Now add that to the Weebly website builder, cPanel, and assisted website transfer - everything starts looking really good.
But you can't miss those few quirks, like the questionable performance outside of the US, and a very lackluster backup policy. Also, the lack of pre-installed SSL and shady backup policy.
To sum it up, if you're looking for a cheap option to host multiple websites - WebHostingPad is a pretty good option. Nonetheless, the choice is yours. But before you decide, take time to check the best hosting providers we found!
- Free Weebly builder included
- Many ways to contact customer support
- Unmetered bandwidth/disk space/websites
- Average overseas performance
- Entry plan doesn't have SSL certificate
