Best VPN Providers With No Logs Policy – Protect Your Info

Searching for the best VPN for privacy? Well, using a VPN that has a no log policy is crucial.

VPNs with zero logging don't store information about your browsing history on their servers. However, although most VPN providers claim to have a 'no-log' policy, unfortunately, this isn't always the case.

Some providers log quite a lot of stuff about you.

That's why I've decided to check the fine print of a bunch of VPNs to see which ones are seriously secure.

And after extensive research into the individual logging policies of each of the leading VPNs, I've come up with the list of the best zero log VPNs on the market:

  • NordVPN (Affordable and the fastest VPN on the list)
  • ExpressVPN (Impressive security and speeds)
  • IPVanish (US-based company with great security philosophy)
  • ProtonVPN (Strong data protection reputation and a free plan)
  • TorGuard (Great for P2P sharing)

1. NordVPN

Prices start at: $2.99/month

NordVPN in Panama is my choice for the best VPN for privacy. NordVPN is one of the few VPN companies on the market that offers a true 'no-log' policy. It doesn’t keep any information about your web traffic, data, IP addresses, connectivity, or any other connection-related information.

As an extra layer of security, NordVPN's offshore location helps protect your internet usage from prying eyes. By being based in Panama (which isn't part of the Five Eyes Jurisdiction), this makes it an excellent option as a VPN provider.

nordvpn speedtestAside from privacy, NordVPN also offers some excellent performance features. After testing its servers, I was able to achieve a speed of around 71Mbps. Considering my WiFi's base speed is 80Mbps, it means that NordVPN retains almost 90% of the internet speed.

This is an excellent amount of speed retention - in fact, it's much better than most other VPN services.

But it doesn't stop there, NordVPN also offers P2P support, access to overseas Netflix servers, and one of the most extensive server lists on the VPN market.

Additional safety features

NordVPN is one of the few VPN providers that offers a large range of additional safety features.

Firstly, NordVPN uses the AES 256-bit encryption standard - this standard was previously used by the US military to help protect sensitive data. This helps provide a strong layer of security against prying eyes.

NordVPN also has an included service called Double VPN - this allows you to double encrypt your web traffic to prevent online exposure. NordVPN's CyberSec feature also automatically blocks malware and other online risks - there aren't many other VPN providers that offer this additional security measure.

High security at an affordable price

While NordVPN is one of the most premium options on the market, it also offers some of the cheapest price points. With its longer packages starting at just $2.99 per month, you can access a world-class VPN service for a great price.

  • Safe jurisdiction
  • Blazing fast speeds
  • P2P support
  • Affordable

  • Can't access best prices without signing up for multi-year packages (payment upfront)

2. ExpressVPN

Prices start at: $8.32/month

ExpressVPN is another top-performer in the VPN industry. As with all the VPN providers in this article, ExpressVPN offers a true 'no-log' policy that helps protect your online data. This VPN provider doesn't collect any of your browsing or IP information.

Like NordVPN, ExpressVPN also uses an offshore location (British Virgin Islands) to help protect against overreaching privacy laws. I typically prefer to work with VPNs that are located in areas outside of the Five Eyes Jurisdiction - a team of Western nations that share data and intelligence with one another.

ExpressVPN's location is a definite 'plus' in my book.

expressvpn speed test resultAside from its strict no-log policy, ExpressVPN also offers one of the fastest internet speeds out of all the VPNs I tested.

My internet speed is typically 80Mbps - after connecting to ExpressVPN, my internet speed was at 61.1Mbps. ExpressVPN can retain over 75% of your original internet speed.

There are also a host of other great features included in ExpressVPN's service, such as:

  • Access to Netflix;
  • P2P support;
  • A wide variety of servers on server locations;

ExpressVPN also uses the same encryption standard as NordVPN - AES 256-bit. So, when you connect to the internet via ExpressVPN, an encrypted tunnel is created to prevent access to your personal information.

What about the cost?

ExpressVPN provides an excellent platform, but it doesn't do it for free.

In fact, ExpressVPN is one of the most expensive VPN providers available - its annual package still costs $8.32 per month. So, if you're looking for something more affordable, you should definitely take a look at the cheaper options in this post.

  • Safe jurisdiction
  • P2P support
  • Accessing Netflix
  • Great download speeds

  • The price point is one of the highest in the industry

3. IPVanish

Prices start at: $4.12/month

IPVanish is another VPN provider that lives up to its promises - the company provides a true no-log policy to its customers. IPVanish doesn't retain any information about browsing habits, downloads, IP addresses, or any other form of digital information.

The primary downside to IPVanish's service is that it is a US-based VPN company. I typically stay away from US-based VPNs because the United States is part of the Five Eyes Jurisdiction.

ipvanish_speedIPVanish lacks in the jurisdiction category, but its performance isn't that much better. In fact, IPVanish retained around 64% of internet download speed.

My internet download speed typically sits around 80Mbps, but after connecting to IPVanish, my speed test concluded a download speed of 51.2Mbps.

That's not an ideal result since most companies on this list provide over 80% speed retention.

  • Strict no-log policy
  • P2P support

  • More expensive than some of the other options on my list
  • Located in the United States

4. ProtonVPN

Prices start at: free!

ProtonVPN is the well-known VPN service provided by the founders of ProtonMail - an email encryption provider that helps users protect their personal email correspondence.

As a firm with considerable experience in data security, ProtonVPN has some of the best safety features in the industry.

Best VPN No Logs ProtonVPN Privacy PolicyProtonVPN's logging policy prevents the retention of your personal browsing data.

You don't need to worry about your IP address or other online information being stored on ProtonVPN servers - and this is outlined clearly in its privacy policy.

They also make promises not to throttle certain types of data.

protonvpn speedtestIn terms of performance, ProtonVPN doesn't live up to NordVPN and ExpressVPN's standards.

Testing the VPN's speed at a base rate of 80Mbps, I was able to achieve a speed of 58.6Mbps on ProtonVPN's top servers.

The speed retention rate of 73% isn't the highest in the industry, but not so low to cause inconveniences for most users.

It's worth mentioning that ProtonVPN offers a completely free plan - while its capabilities are limited, it's a nice way to get acquainted with the platform before buying.

  • Safe jurisdiction
  • The founders of the company have strong reputations in the data security industry
  • Free plan

  • Not as fast as some of the other providers on the market
  • Doesn't offer strong performance against geo-locking - all free and some paid servers can't access Netflix.

5. TorGuard

Prices start at: $4.12/month

TorGuard is the only other US-based VPN provider on my list. While TorGuard's location in the United States is less than ideal, its logging policy is one of the best in the industry.

TorGuard doesn't log any of your web traffic or IP data and is one of the few firms committed to a true 'no-log' policy. TorGuard clearly outlines its lack of data retention in its privacy policy (click to expand):

Best VPN No Logs TorGuard Logging Policy

TorGuard is also popular for its openness towards torrenting. In fact, just in case you didn't notice, the 'Tor' in TorGuard is derived from the word torrent. So, despite its location in the United States, TorGuard is very friendly towards torrent users.

torguard speedtestIn terms of speed, I was only able to retain around 65% of my internet's speed while connected to TorGuard.

While my internet usually downloads at a rate of 80Mbps, TorGuard's servers provided me with a maximum download speed of 53.2Mbps.

If speed is your priority, TorGuard isn't the best VPN no logs for you!

  • True no-log policy
  • P2P sharing is approved

  • Located in the United States
  • Not as fast as the leading providers

Best VPN With No Logs - Which One is the Perfect Choice for You?

If you're planning on investing in a new VPN service, you need to choose the one that suits your needs.

That's why I've created a list of features associated with each of the above providers so that you can figure which VPN is best:

  • NordVPN is best for those who want an affordable, world-class VPN.
  • ExpressVPN is best for those who value high-speed downloads.
  • IPVanish is best for those who want to work with a US-based company that also has extremely fast downloads.
  • ProtonVPN is best for those who want to work with a management team that appreciates online privacy.
  • TorGuard is best for those who want a no-log platform built for P2P sharing.

If internet privacy is your primary concern, it's a great idea to purchase a VPN with a no-log policy. Don't take a VPN provider's word for granted - many don’t offer the 'log-free' policy they claim in their advertisements. Digging deeper is the only way to find out if your VPN is telling the whole truth.
