Buffered VPN Review – Is This VPN Secure?

buffered vpn review

Buffered VPN is one of the biggest names in the market - and it claims to provide high-speed web browsing and industry-leading data protection.

In this Buffered VPN review, we'll compare it to the competitions and see if that's really the case. So let's have a look at the most important things to know before buying.

How Safe is Buffered VPN?

When it comes to safety, there are 3 main things that have to be looked into - the security measures the platform itself is using, the jurisdiction of the company, and its no log policy. And overall, in Buffered VPN, there are a few things I'd like to note.

Buffered VPN uses a 256-bit AES encryption, which is very secure and yet to be broken. This is better than the slightly-less secure (but faster) 128-bit encryption used by some other companies.

Now - the jurisdiction. Buffered VPN headquarters are in Gibraltar – a British overseas territory that benefits from a unique legal jurisdiction. While at first glance this appears positive, Gibraltar's association with the UK makes me uneasy. The UK is part of the Fourteen Eyes Jurisdiction; a data sharing arrangement between most major Western countries.

Although Gibraltar is not subject to UK's Digital Economy laws, they can still be pressured enough to make Buffered VPN give the information away.

But it's not Buffered VPN's jurisdiction that you really need to worry about…

Its no-logging claim sounds more than questionable. A look at their privacy policy indicates they do store personal data, including your IP address.

So, is Buffered VPN safe? I can't recommend Buffered as a safe VPN product – their jurisdiction and logging policy are both worrying. Although the company says it's only for "troubleshooting purposes", anything can happen.

Buffered VPN Speed Test

All VPN services slow down your online connection - what matters is by how much. Without a VPN turned on, my web connection clock upload and download speed of around 70-80 Mbps. With Buffered VPN on, the speed reduced to around 50 Mbps download, and 35 Mbps upload.

That's not bad. While Buffered VPN speed isn't as fast as some of the industry leaders, their servers provide plenty of power for downloading and uploading.

Buffered VPN Netflix Capabilities

netflix not supportedWhile some use VPNs for safety, others are more concerned about unlocking geo-locked content. So, how does Buffered VPN handle Netflix streaming?

While some other Buffered VPN reviews say the company is a Netflix-friendly service, my tests concluded that Netflix detected Buffered VPNs software. Buffered VPN Netflix capabilities are not reliable enough to ensure seamless streaming of geo-locked content.

What's more, even switching around the servers didn't help. Seems like that Netflix knows what server Buffered VPN are using - and blacklisted them all.

Does Buffered VPN Support Torrenting?

torrents work

Fortunately, Buffered VPN fully supports peer to peer traffic, and openly allows torrenting on its servers.

While downloading & uploading speeds aren't particularly great, torrenting with Buffered VPN is entirely possible.

So if you are looking to go past a certain torrenting restriction, this service will work like a charm!

Buffered VPN Pricing

Buffered VPN is one of the more expensive options in the market. For monthly Buffered VPN package, you pay $9.99 a month; for bi-annually, you pay $59.94 for 6 months; and for annually, you pay $99 for 13 months. Therefore, the prices never go below 8 dollars a month.

PeriodPrice
Monthly$9.99
Every 6 Months$59.94
Every 13 months$99

And, to make matters just a little bit worse, Buffered VPN doesn't provide a free trial. So if you won't like what you're getting for your money, you'll need to take advantage of its 30-day money-back guarantee.

Is Buffered VPN Any Good?

While their service is popular with many consumers, is Buffered VPN good? Their servers are alright, and their product is easy-to-use, but there are many worrying aspects of their platform.

Their jurisdiction and logging policy aren't good enough to ensure safety. Also, my Buffered VPN review concluded their servers were often detected by Netflix – unlocking overseas content isn't guaranteed.

Now add that to pretty steep pricing, and you get an overall picture of this Buffered VPN review. It isn't a provider I can genuinely recommend. You simply don't get enough for the money that you pay. Luckily, there are a lot of other options - the people looking for the best VPN service are spoiled for choice.
