IPVanish Review – Can It Offer A Quality VPN Solution?

IPVanish positions itself as one of the best VPN services overall, claiming to offer the 'best VPN speeds' and the 'most secure connections'  to its users.

The chances are, you've already seen plenty of this company's advertising efforts, and just like I was, you're keen to know whether this product is actually worth your money.

So, that's what you'll find out in this IPVanish Review: is your money going to be well spent on this well-known VPN provider?

How Safe is IPVanish?

If you're trying to determine the safety of a VPN service, you first need to consider its jurisdiction and logging policy. If a VPN is located in an unsecured jurisdiction, it may have to comply with government requests for information.

So, where is IPVanish located?

At present, the company is a US-based VPN service. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst jurisdictions for VPN services as the US is not known for its internet privacy laws. The United States is part of the Five Eyes Jurisdiction, which means it has agreements to share data and intelligence with other large Western powers.

So, while its jurisdiction is worrying, does IPVanish have a solid no-log policy that prevents data retention? Actually, it does, IPVanish has one of the strongest no-log policies I've seen.

Homeland Security Cooperation Allegations

Recent stories of VPN's suggest that Homeland Security began prosecuting an individual after using IPVanish to find their suspect. While the individual may have been involved in illegal activity, this means that your online activity also might be at risk.

So, it appears that IPVanish may secretly log more data than it declares, and while it appears to be making promises of security in the future, this story reduces my trust in the service.

Does IPVanish Use Strong Encryption?

While IPVanish has a variety of issues with its privacy reputation, its encryption standard is a silver lining. IPVanish uses the gold standard of encryption, AES 256-bit, to help its customers hide data from prying eyes and hackers.

IPVanish Review EncryptionIf you want to create a secure 'tunnel' that protects your internet data on unsecured WiFi hotspots, IPVanish has the ability to deliver the encryption you need.

So, is IPVanish safe? While its encryption standard and jurisdiction are positive features in its safety platform, IPVanish's recent allegations mean that I cannot promote this VPN service as a viable safe option.

IPVanish Speed Test

ipvanish speed testIn order to test IPVanish performance, first I tested my internet connection without a VPN. My initial download speed was at a stable 70Mbps.

Once I turned on my IPVanish connection, my download speed reduced to 55.1Mbps and the upload speed clocked in at 42.3Mbps. This is around a 73% speed retention rate, which is more than decent when compared to the rest of the market.

Overall, if you can stream high-definition content without a VPN, you'll be okay when using this product.

IPVanish Netflix Capabilities

Unfortunately, I was not able to consistently bypass Netflix blocks using IPVanish. I tested a variety of servers and couldn't find a platform that accessed overseas Netflix catalogs.

Netflix might not be a deal breaker for you, though, as if you already live in the United States then you already benefit from the service's most extensive media catalog.

But those often visiting, working in, or living in foreign countries aren't so lucky. So, if you're looking for non-stop access to Netflix content from abroad - this service might not be for you.

Does IPVanish Support Torrenting?

vpn torrenting supportedFortunately, torrents work perfectly with IPVanish.

The company openly supports torrents on its platforms - I tested various torrent downloads to ensure there weren't any problems with torrent support.

This comes across as quite a pleasant surprise, as more and more often torrents become an awkward subject for VPN providers.

However, no such issues arise here with IPVanish, and you can use P2P connections freely.

IPVanish Server Locations

Server numbers are actually one of the best parts of IPVanish's service. You can access over 1,000 servers in over 60 countries on its platform. As you can see in the image below, IPVanish covers most regions in the world, making it a reliable partner if you want access to servers in a wide range of countries.

IPVanish Customer Support

IPVanish Review Live ChatAfter checking out other IPVanish reviews, I jumped to the conclusion that IPVanish lacked a live chat portal for customer support. However, after doing my own digging, I found that IPVanish has a solid live chat portal that is available 24/7.

And they do much more than simply be there. IPVanish customer support is swift, friendly and knowledgeable. Quite simply, there were no issues with it whatsoever.

You can also contact its customer support team via an email support ticket. IPVanish also has some great online resources too. Overall, I believe it has a solid customer support team on-hand to help you with any issues all around the clock.

IPVanish Pricing

While there are cheaper alternatives to IPVanish, its price points are still very competitive. It sells subscriptions in three different packages: month-to-month ($10/mo), quarterly ($6.49/mo), and annually ($8.99/mo).

PeriodPrice
Monthly$10.00
Quarterly$26.99
Annually$77.99

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that you must pay for the more extended packages in full. To take advantage of the best IPVanish pricing, opt for the annual plan.

If you're looking to try the service first, you can take advantage of its full 7-day money back guarantee. So, if you don't like its service for the first week that you try it, you can always request a refund.

IPVanish Review: Is It Any Good?

Despite IPVanish having questionable safety because of its US jurisdiction, it does offer decent no-log policy and strong military-grade encryption. Additionally, it shows better speed retention results than an average VPN provider and offers a more extensive server and country list to choose from. However, compared to the most popular VPN providers (such as NordVPN) - IPVanish is a noticeably pricier solution.

If you're looking for a speedy VPN provider with a huge country list - IPVanish should be on your list of considerations.

While IPVanish has some downsides, there are still plenty of benefits. The service is high-speed, has a solid no-log policy, excellent customer support, and an extensive server list. You can get access to torrents without any issues.

So, if you can overlook the lack of Netflix support and US jurisdiction, this is a viable option. However, I'm interested in finding out what you think, so feel free to drop a comment below.
