Whatever you're into, be it cupcakes, drag racing or motivational speaking, blogging can be a great way to share your thoughts on your favorite topic or even share your life story.

But with well over a million blog posts uploaded every day, it's becoming harder than ever to stand out from the crowd. Choosing the right web host can make a big difference though.

There are plenty of great blogging platforms out there - and for many options that you'll choose, you'll also need some fantastic free blog hosting providers which I'll tell you all about below.

Having experimented with lots of the internet's biggest blogging platforms, and testing them on things like price, usability, and reliability, I have narrowed them down to a list.

These right here are the best blog hosting sites:

  • 000webhost (Great for free blog hosting)
  • SiteGround (Amazing customer support)
  • Wix (Free blog hosting with site builder)
  • A2 Hosting (Ideal for blogs requiring quick response time)
  • Hostinger (Cheap and reliable blog hosting)

1. 000webhost

From $0.00/month

Blog Hosting Sites 000webhost Homepage

Let's jump straight in with the best place to host a blog if you want to save you money – 000webhost is an entirely free web host.

While 000webhost packages are not designed specifically for blogging, you can install a blog-friendly content management system (CMS) like WordPress on your server in a single click. Then you can select one of the thousands WordPress blog themes to base your site on.

There are even templates designed for specific blog topics ranging from fashion to real estate.

There are, of course, trade-offs to picking a free host. In the case of 000webhost, you'll be limited to just 1GB storage and 10GB bandwidth. That gives you enough room to share your work with a reasonably small audience, but not enough space to upload lots of multimedia content.

A subdomain comes included with the free package, so your web address will be in the form of 'www.example.000webhost.com'. That's not a great look for commercial blogs, but you can add a domain registered elsewhere to your free 000webhost account.

000webhost is actually a subsidiary of Hostinger – another service I recommend for blog hosting. So, if you like the look of 000webhost's service but are willing to pay for increased storage and bandwidth, consider Hostinger's packages (also reviewed below).

  •  Completely free plans available
  •  1-Click WordPress installation
  • Can link account with externally registered domains
  •  Free subdomain included

  •  Restrictive storage and bandwidth limits
  •  No 24/7 customer support

2. SiteGround

From $3.95/month

Blog Hosting Sites SiteGround BlogsIf you've never set up a blog before and want a host that will help you create one, SiteGround is certainly worth your consideration.

Like 000webhost, SiteGround offers decent WordPress support, but you also have the freedom to use other CMS platforms like Drupal or Joomla to manage your blog content. Whichever you choose, SiteGround has a number of tutorials to help you get started.

SiteGround also offers 24/7 customer support via almost any method you can think of including phone, live chat, email, and tickets. While many other blog hosts also offer 24/7 support, it stands out thanks to its no wait-time policy. The host also achieves that by overstaffing every support shift to ensure a representative is always available to take your call or respond to a chat.

SiteGround plans begin at $3.95/month for 10GB storage and range up to $11.95/month for 30GB storage.

Essentially, SiteGround is a suitable provider if you want to include a large number of still images in your blogs. However, you will need to embed from external services (like Vimeo) if you plan on sharing many high definition videos.

Every plan comes with unlimited bandwidth which makes SiteGround a good choice if you expect your blog to receive a large amount of web traffic. And, no matter where your readers are located, thanks to the inclusion of a CloudFlare content delivery network (CDN), you can rest assured that your blog will load quickly. CDNs cache your site at servers around the world to help it load fast for distant visitors.

  •  Compatible with WordPress, Drupal & Joomla
  •  Fantastic 24/7 customer support with no-wait-time policy
  •  CDN speeds up your site globally
  •  Tutorials to help you set up your blog
  •  Unlimited bandwidth - great for high-traffic blogs

  •  No unlimited storage plans available
  •  Domain registration not included

3. Wix

From $0.00/month

Blog Hosting Sites Wix HomepageUnquestionably, Wix is the most unique host on this list. It's not your run-of-the-mill web host, but a powerful site building package that hosts your blog once you've finished creating it.

Wix also offers free blog hosting. The free plan costs nothing and nets you 500MB storage and 500MB bandwidth. These are fairly restrictive limits though, and the free plan also places ads on your site, so I highly advise you to consider the $11/month 'Combo' package instead. It includes 2GB storage and 3GB bandwidth, enough to share a relatively small site with a mid-sized audience.

But whichever you choose, you'll have complete access to the Wix editor, which is the chief draw of all Wix packages. It's based on a drag-and-drop design so it doesn't take long to get to grips with. And it comes with 500+ templates, meaning there'll almost certainly be one that is perfectly suited to your blog.

What's more, the Wix editor allows you to easily inject some of your own personality into your blog design. Unlike similar site builders (such as Squarespace), it's a blank canvas tool – you can place content wherever you like on your pages, and edit even the finest details.

  •  An entirely free plan is available
  •  Easy-to-use site builder with tons of stunning templates
  •  Blank-canvas editor gives you lots of control

  •  Live support is not 24/7
  •  Relatively expensive 'Combo' plan comes with storage and bandwidth restriction

4. A2 Hosting

From $3.92/month

Blog Hosting Sites A2 Plans

If you're concerned about getting your visitors to actually finish reading your posts, there are two things you can do.

First, you have to produce engaging content. Second, you can make sure your site loads fast – evidence shows over half of all readers abandon pages that take longer than 3 seconds to load.

While A2 Hosting won't help you actually think of witty, charming things to say (I know, bummer), it will help you to speed up your blog.

A2 sites load quickly thanks to its use of SSD servers (which are significantly speedier than standard hard drives) and a custom SwiftServer architecture. I found my test A2 site responded as fast as 23ms. And, like SiteGround, all A2 plans come with CloudFlare CDN so your blog will be mirrored at all of A2 Hosting's global data centers, keeping things snappy for international visitors too.

With A2, your blog will also be more environmentally friendly than the average website. A2 Hosting offsets its servers' CO2 emissions and has a smaller initial footprint than most web hosts thanks to a focus on telecommuting and recycling old hardware. If you're writing a business blog, you can use your hosting eco-friendliness to differentiate yourself from others in your industry!

Plans begin at $3.92/month and include unlimited storage and bandwidth, great for sharing a ton of multimedia content! However, the starter plan only includes hosting for a single site. If you want to run blogs on multiple domains, I suggest upgrading to the $4.90/month plan.

  •  SSD storage and CloudFlare CDN result in speedy load times
  •  Eco-friendly web host
  •  24/7 Skype and live chat support
  •  Unlimited storage and bandwidth

  •  Starter plan only supports one domain
  •  Domain registration not included

5. Hostinger

From $1.45/month

Blog Hosting Sites Hostinger PlansHostinger is an excellent blogging choice if you want to have a reliable blog hosting experience with low monthly overheads. Thanks to its use of CloudLinux technology, your virtual shared Hostinger server will be assigned partitioned physical resources.

As your site's performance won't be affected by other users on the same hardware, this results in some big reliability benefits.

For example, Hostinger guarantees a 99.9% uptime rate (equating to a maximum 10 minutes of downtime per week). In my own tests, I found my Hostinger site actually achieved a stellar 100% uptime – fantastic!

Just keep in mind that unlike its offshoot, 000webhost, Hostinger doesn't offer free blog hosting.

However, there are some big advantages to paying for a Hostinger plan rather than opting for 000webhost's totally free package. You can contact a Hostinger support representative 24/7 by live chat if you run into a technical difficulty, for example.

Hostinger also offers far more storage and bandwidth than 000webhost does. The starter $1.45/month plan comes with 10GB storage and 100GB bandwidth. But if you need even more room, it's only $1.50/month extra to upgrade to a fully unlimited plan which will allow you to upload and share as much data as you like.

  •  Reliable with 99.9% uptime guarantee
  •  Extremely affordable base and unlimited storage plans
  •  24/7 Support available by live chat
  •  1-Click WordPress installation

  •  SSL certificate not included except in top-tier plan
  •  No phone support

Choosing The Best Blog Site Hosting Options To Use

Overall, both the design of your blog and the tools that you use depend to you. Well - the list that you've just read has, I think, the best ones around.

All of these hosts can give you the tools required to produce a fresh looking blog, so focus on your personal needs to help you choose which to use:

  • 000webhost is a great choice for free WordPress-based blog hosting
  • SiteGround is ideal if you care about customer support
  • Wix offers free blog hosting and wonderful site building templates
  • A2 Hosting will help your blog to load fast
  • Hostinger's blogging sites are extremely reliable and cheap

Although Wix and 000webhost both offer fantastic free blogging packages, they both come with hefty storage and bandwidth restrictions. If you plan on updating your blog regularly or want a site that can cope with thousands of monthly visitors, there's no real alternative to a paid provider.

But what do you think? Would you use any of these blogging platforms or do you already have a favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
